A decenty good clean race. there are a lot of complaints people make
about the IRL but the actual races are pretty good watching.
(One of fairly few I've watched this year)
I felt the race overall was kind'a "ehhhh?"

I too felt it was kinda "ehhh"... then again, --
BTW--I do agree that Ryan's incident was an interesting event...
though, I don't understand how he was able to go back to the front after
having taken to the pit-lane again... (in the end it didn't matter as
he fell back so far due to the damage...)
I agree with that. I'm used to a fair variety of rules on
safety cars/full course yellows,
but something there seemed very strange,
- but not worth going back & reviewing.

Ryan Briscoe, and how he handled the pressure of having
a good lead in the championship, ,
was to me quite interesting.
(since there are some, at least occasionally reading)
I'll expand on that a bit.
When you have a fairly large lead in a championship
as it gets near the end, there are several ways of
dealing with it. Basicly 1, go kind of conservative
and ensure a finish to add points to make it more
difficult for others to overcome your lead before the
end of the year. Or 2, try to push hard, (like "win")
to wrap it up.
IMHO, danger is often there for those who vacilate,
or switch mid race.

Pre race, Briscoe was talking like he wanted to
push and cinch it there.
Early race ? He looked conservative???, but maybe
that's all he & car were capable of that day.
Then, perfect opportunity/timing/luck on yellow,
elation/thrill/chance ---- shheettt!!

Briscoe's only goof - and it was a big one - was goosing it too hard
when Penske told him to get a move on leaving the pits. So is that
his fault, or is it to be expected these days when drivers are trained
listen to their earpiece instead of thinking for themselves?
IMHO - clearly his fault. Over excited, over eager.
As the football coach says, "I can't have you leaving the
ball laying on the ground for anyone to pick up!!"
It's just one of those key and important things in life.

I just chalked it up to the typical IRL inconsistencies (read that as
"trying to find a way to make things interesting by keeping the
points-leader in the front", or "working the show").

Finally got around to watching the DVR'd race last night. There were a
couple little scraps going on, but overall the race struck me as one big
'meh.'

I haven't watched the entire race as it was too 'meh'for me also. I
have DirecTv and didn't get to record it properly, but it didn't
matter to me. It always is a poor race with little or no passing. I
have always thought it was a one groove track and should be abandoned
or the track fixed. Did you see what Honda did to Suzuka? What a great
track it has always been and now it is stunning.

Suzuka is amazing. Part of me thinks Honda would be better served using
it as the Japanese Indy venue, but another part of me is reluctant to
see just how slow the current Indy Cars would be on it. I suppose they
also want to get some use out of that oval they built...
