Default Kansas: Wheldon on Pole. Marco Starts Eleventh - 07-02-2006 , 12:04 AM

Marco Andretti starts eleventh. That's ok. Just more cars for him to
pass on the way to the front!

Hopefully Wheldon will be fighting for the lead at the end of the race
when it counts and not the first or middle part of the race.

Go Helio! Go Marco! Go Sam!

Flip between this race and F1 at Indy. Watch the race at Indy because it
may be the very last F1 race in the U.S. for the next twenty years. I'll be
at Indy by the way. Will Tivo Kansas.

1. 10 Dan Wheldon

2. 6 Sam Hornish Jr

Hmm. Two new drivers with a lot of future potential qualify against the
experienced field in practically the same spot. This will be interesting,
though Marco's team seems to have a lot more resources to back him up.

What is "future potential"? Is that potential that they may develop in
the future? They either have potential or future. To say that they
have "future potential" says absolutely nothing.

These two qualifying positions may also indicate that the IRL has less
than ten talented drivers.

Future potential in Inferior Racing League speak means eating beans & toast
while sleeping in the paddock over night, when they're not enjoying long stays
in the hospital recovery ward from smashing hard into concrete walls during
those yellow-flag races.

Its probably less that than running in a series that is talent-short or
a sport that has limited exposure and fan interest. They may have some
potential that needs to be tested and developed. After that, if there
is adequate development, they can move into a major racing series when
they mature and get some track time under their belt.

At this point, open wheel in the U.S. is pretty much only a development
sport for drivers to move into vehicles with fenders. Moving into F1
requires the development of different skills than cruising around in
circles in the IRL.
