Tony George on Wind Tunnel said he didn't hate Robin Miller. He
doesn't like him, but he doesn't hate him either.

When asked point blank to review the reasons for founding the IRL, he
went back to the oval track opportunties bit. Hint Tony, the last
several races you have added to the IRL schedule have been road
races. Not many bought that song back in 95-96 and its tired now.

I give Dave a lot of credit for this interview. Polite and
respectful, but not afraid to ask tough questions. When he read the
email, Dave point blank said that this was representative of nearly
all the email he got regarding open wheel without the name calling,
and said basically or something to the effect so its not an exact
quote, "This is your chance to respond to fans that feel this way.
What would you like to say to them." Dave let him speak. His answer
was I don't know. Until he does, the fans ain't coming back kicking
and screaming. It was clearly the most telling portion of the
interview. Whether it was his fault or not is inmaterial. He has to
deal with it and come up with something better than I don't know.
Clearly marketing wasn't his strong suit. If you don't answer a
question that comes when you try to sell a product, the customer will
answer it for you and frankly you might not like the answer.

Frankly I think he was more worried that people would think that he
really hated Robin Miller than he was about the condition of open
wheel racing.

Well, folks, there is your Clueless Leader...Tony "I Don't Know"
George.

Whatever pulse US OWR has left, TG's finger is on the farthest point
from it

"Tony, what are your qualifications for running OWR in the US?"

"I don't know"

Tony, what can be done to bring the two series together so OWR can
prosper?"

"I don't know"

I'll give TG five points for going on Wind Tunnel, but minus several
million for not having the balls to answer phone questions. Spineless.

JFTR, I won't say TG is solely responsible for the mess that US OWR is
in. I'll give him at least 75% credit.

Well, that just shows that TG is a chess player. We all know that giving any
credence to robin is a smack against champ car (everyone knows how RM been
body waste dumping on champs of late). So, hell, why not give RM a fig
leaf...after all, he's been helping your cause of late.

It is just like last year when many people in champs said that IRL has no
respect, or ability to move on to F1. It was not a month later that a test
in F1 was organized by Honda

Then we complied about too many ovals..and no serious road racing...not a
month later they announced a race of mid-ohio......

So, no..I don't trust the guy as far as I could throw him. You see how he
does play chess well. If there is a complaint about how the IRL is worse or
inferior to CCWS, then he takes steps to address that.....

I sure they got a new car in the works too!!!

That is how you play this dirty game. Anything that you can take away from
the enemy...you will!!!

It all abut perception. The problem is that they not delivering the
attendance numbers....

LOL, I'm sure the sycophants at 16th and Georgetown told him what a
great job he did Sunday night.

Maybe they play it that way, but its the wrong way to play it. My
daddy always told me that if you are trying to pull yourself up by
pulling someone else down, you are admitting they are better than you
are. Being better has nothing to do with the condition of a bank
account or any other means of keeping score. Being better meant the
product couldn't win on a head to head comparison.

The test was a "reward" for doing well in a Honda engine. Honda has
done this in years past as well. It was hardly a test to put them in
a seat, but much more of a demonstration run. It also could be used
for comparison when testing other means of development. Information
like who can usually go faster quicker, someone from Formula 3 or an
IRL driver first time in the car. Which goes quicker faster? Seems
like this year too the test had someone in it with the last name
Andretti and that alone just might have had a reason for the request.

If he is giving credence to what Robin says about Champ Car, he is
also giving credence to what he says about the IRL is no better and
usually worse. Road racing was one of the reasons the IRL was
formed. Remember it was surposed to be an all oval series to give
those heros of the short tracks a way to get to Indy. Trouble is
those heros of the short track were almost never qualified to run the
high speed, high hp aero cars and IPS had to be developed after the
fact. Once the IRL went road racing it was one of the last things to
admit the original vision had failed to succeed and had to change. It
was change or lose control and control was exactly the goal all along.

I agree that they should be delivering the attendence numbers.
Trouble is in most places they are so bad they don't want them known.
Even Indy's numbers are down so far that releasing them could be a
bigger embarassment than not publishing them. Unless its at tracks
that bundle tickets, attendance has always been a problem.
