Say want you want about the IRL and ChampCar and F1. There's one good
thing that I think we can agree on - at least their seasons are not as
long as NASCAR.

Ugh, how long is the NASCAR season going to run? It just goes on and
on and on. It seems like there have been five races left the last eight
weeks. "After this race, only ten more races!" "After this race on twenty
more races!" Over and over.

So, after this Texas race there are only two more races left? I know
when I turn on the pre-race show next weekend the announcer will say "Only
five more races to go including this one!"

When you run so many races like NASCAR who really cares who wins the
championship? I sure don't. NASCAR at this time of year is boring.

If it is so boring why are you hangin on the every telecast?

Granted I am feed a troll a bit but everyone has to do that once in a
while. I haven't watch all of a chase race yet this year. The Nascar I
grew up enjoying is gone. I watch a few minutes at the beginning to see
how they said goodbye to Terry Labonte, and watched the last few laps.
The rest I had other things to do. If I watched 15 laps it was a lot.
All this from a fan that used to miss maybe 15 laps all year long.

Nascar will be worse next year with the new car

NASCAR will be even better next year with the new car and the new American
drivers to reseat those who are finally retiring.

Oh you mean Americans like Juan Montoya??? With Toyota coming in, how
many fans are going to pull for a Japanese driver? Those T Sato sweat
shirts are going to be really big sellers in the trucks. As soon as
Honda is finished with their IRL commitments you can be assured that
Honda will be there to battle Toyota. People will look back fondly at
history and thing about the days gone by when Ford battle Chevy and they
didn't run spec race cars. Yet they have to make sure all the cars are
equal so as to have big packs for the big wrecks and the next awful movie.

I don't think so. All the big teams will still win all the races and it
will still be incredibly boring.

And that is so much unlike the various forms of open wheel racing where
the little teams win so often. Correct?
No, oval racing is boring, that is the difference.

Doesn't it suck that there is completely nothing left to watch except
NASCAR until February? Even the DDP's (dumb-downed Daytona prototypes)
in January can't satisfy me. Actually, I heard Speed is going to show
A1GP soon so will be something to watch and a couple kids from California
did well this weekend in the kick off of the Autumn Formula Palmer-Audi
series in England so there is something to follow, too.

So get your foreigners to run some races in the Southern Hemisphere during
the traditional off months. Nobody is forcing you to watch Jeff Gordon
and the rest of
NASCAR in November.
I'm fast-forwarding through the races with Monty, AJ and Papis, and watching
Speed Report and Wind Tunnel. Plus all the euro stuff on the torrent sites.
I'm going back and watching 250cc MotoGP, and I still have 8 hours of
channel ten coverage to watch of the Surfers weekend.

Yes, sad but true, for most of us here.

One of the other posters was knocking NASCAR's long season,
but I've always wondered if that wasn't another reason *for* its
popularity? How hard is it to get into a sport that doesn't have
weekly events, and has less than 20 events a year?

Quite true. Come the end of the work week people get excited for football
here in the USA because they know it's every Sunday, and NASCAR is the same.
Having less events does hurt. I guess we could have events nearly every week
if there was a merger but not everyone likes every type of track. Even in
the high point CART my friends and I were completely uninterested in the
oval races.

The local TV stations here harp on the local NFL team 12 months out
of a year..rain or shine. They even have a weekly show to themselves.
So it most be more than just about the amount of events.

No, the reason for NASCAR's popularity is fans identifying with the drivers.
