You know some people could say that the only American driver
in a series being fired from one team for not producing, going to
another team mid-season, and suddenly winning left and right appears
"contrived" too. :-)

Actually, they've already done that, twice at least. The races
were non-points paying "exhibitions," but they were full fields and
full length. There was also an Australian exhibition race once.

What ever happened with the Australian venture. I see Bob Jane's
Thunderdome is still there, but his "AUSCAR" series died back in 2001. It
looks as though the track is only used for "driving experiences" these days.
What I find very interesting is that Aussies really like their dirt oval
racing, both open wheel and stock cars; but when it comes to pavement racing
they trend toward the road circuits.

I don't know. Like I said, they went at least twice to Japan,
but only once that I can remember to Australia.
Speaking of dirt ovals, there's at least one, maybe two Aussie
drivers in the World of Outlaws sprint car series here. The one I know
for sure has even won a few races. And there's an Aussie in the NASCAR
truck series too.

There have been a lot of Aussie drivers in the WoO. Quite a few take their
winter vacations in the Knoxville, IA area to run at that track. Brooke
Tatnell is running the entire season this year.

Amen. Ridiculously long season plus equally ridiculously long boring

In the U.S. at least, a lot more people than who care only
about CCWS or IRL, combined, several times over! :-)
You did know that their TV numbers are down for the second year.

Point taken. He did go to a top flight team though. Had he done this
with a backmarker team then eyes should be raised-unless he's the next
coming of Senna or M. Schumacher.

Anyone who says that hasn't been paying attention. 'Dinger had been knocking
on the door even last season. Lots of podiums. And wasn't it Edmonton where
he was in inconsolable after putting it in the wall while leading?

Yes, but they're still way above CCWS/IRL. Also, the Atlanta
race was up from last year.

They will continue to go down. A significant number of the older fans have
been turned away by the recent changes and the younger fans who NASCAR would
like to attract are not going to sit through a five hour race telecast.
