According to NASCAR no car can be aided by another car on the last lap.

What would have been neat (not to mention legendary) is if Kevin had
bumped Jeff cleanly giving him a small push to the finish and then go
around him prior to the line. Would have been an interesting rules
determination.
On a side note, it was nice to see Mike Helton show that the NASCAR
hierarchy still has no clue when it comes to safety. Lots of excuses, no
logic.
The Harvick fire???? Didn't have time for all the post-race stuff.

That is correct. Bonehead did so for Wallace once.

Probably completely legal. They've never called anyone on "bump
drafting."

Almost impossible to tell for sure as NASCAR keeps its rule book a deep,
dark secret. But somewhere banging around in the back of my brain is a
rule saying any car can be assisted by a competitor except across the
finish line.

Ever hear about the pushing deal between Foyt and Gurney in a VW race
at the old Nassau Speedweeks? One of them had an illegally large
engine, and pushed the other around. They finished 1-2. The pusher
with the illegal engine was DQ'd, which they pretty much expected, but
they split the first place money as planned.

Anyone familiar with this tale (like do I have it close to correct?)
please chime in.
I have a model of Gurney's 64 Nassau VW.

This year was another mess of CART calling itself Indy and confusing the
fans with their lousy races. Next season the IRL will not have that problem
to deal with. Plus the IRL will have a lot more teams. It is all falling
into place. As the writer said, the IRL would be well advised not to run
their races at the exact same time the NASCAR race is being run.
