Why? Isn't it about the racing? Do they try to get people on the grounds
for race day because of a Nickelodean Display? Extreme Sports? Do they
purposely try and boost attendance with events other than the race (like
here for the Houston Grand Prix)? No.

Glad you brought this up....good for you...

I would have to say there if there was a race that was based on over-hype,
and stands filled with ONCE A YEAR race fans that have no clue about
racing,
I would have to say the grand prize for such a event is the IRL's indy
500.

Why? Isn't it about the racing?
Only if it's in circles.

It would really the height of hypocrisy to blame Champ Car for over hyping
here?

You *real* problem you have is that you don't really want intelligent fans.

There's no need to hype Indy because it's the greatest race with the greatest
cars on the greatest track starring the greatest drivers in the world and it
takes an entire month just to figure out how to hold a 2-1/2 hour race. In
fact, many of the fans are so sophisticated that they only attend the Indy 500
and when asked, said that they were unaware that the IRL ran any other races
outside of the great Memorial Day weekend classic (the one that the world stops
for so they can tune in and watch the excitement!).

Outside of Indy, the IRL has the world's most sophisticated fans ever. That's
why their so few in number! Cars driving flat out in circles is demanding on
the average fan, it's so demanding and intellectually complex that few are up to
the job. So few that sometimes there's only a few hundred people in the stands
at a race.

Glass houses, sir.

The IRL's the best and greatest Indy Racing League there ever was.

Accept no substitutes.

At least the IRL's about pure racing. Tony would never tolerate non-racing
activity at the speedway just to attract fans.

The height of hypocrisy is Carey Akin attempting to say the IRL500 and

The Indy Racing League's partnership with Hollywood-based Simmons
Abramson Marketing is highlighted by the "i am INDY" campaign and
signature song, co-authored by KISS founder Gene Simmons and BAG.

The effort is the first official theme song for a modern professional
sport. With its growling affirmations and foot-stomping, "We Will Rock
You/We Are the Champions" sensibility, the "i am INDY" song forges a
resonant link between the drivers and the IndyCar Series fans.

I am Indy
I am Indy
Hey
Hey
I am everything I want
I got everything I need
Know exactly what to do cause I am Indy
Hey
And I love the way I feel
To be me is something real cause I am Indy
I am Indy
Hey
I am everything I want
I got everything I need
Know exactly what to do cause I am Indy
Hey
And I love the way I feel
When I get behind the wheel
Cause I am Indy
I am Indy
Hey I am Indy
Hey I am Indy
Hey I am Indy
Hey I am Indy
Hey I am Indy
Hey I am Indy
Hey

Legendary rock band Cheap Trick will headline a special concert on WorldPoints
Visa Card Pole Day for the Indianapolis 500 on Saturday, May 13 at the
Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The concert will take place on the Miller Lite Stage in the infield, adjacent to
Turn 3 of the IMS oval. It is free for all ticket holders for WorldPoints Visa
Card Pole Day, on which the coveted inside front-row starting spot for "The
Greatest Spectacle in Racing" will be decided.

"This exciting Cheap Trick concert is just another great addition to the Month
of May lineup at the Speedway," said Joie Chitwood, IMS president and chief
operating officer. "The combination of the drama of the run for the coveted pole
and the energy of a live Cheap Trick show will provide a fun, memorable day for
our fans."

Cheap Trick, formed in 1973 in Rockford, Ill., has produced numerous rock hits
during its illustrious career. Hit albums such as "Cheap Trick," "At Budokan,"
"In Color," "Heaven Tonight," "Dream Police" and "Lap of Luxury" spawned such
hits as "Surrender," "I Want You to Want Me," "Voices," "Dream Police," "The
Flame" and "Don't Be Cruel."

The band is comprised of Robin Zander (vocals), Rick Nielsen (guitar), Tom
Petersson (bass) and Bun E. Carlos (drums).

On-track activity on WorldPoints Visa Card Pole Day is scheduled to start with
practice from 9-11 a.m. Qualifications take place from noon-6 p.m.

The Cheap Trick concert is scheduled to start at 3 p.m.

I think Mary In Canville needs to shut the fuck up, lest he appear more

But what do I know....

Cheap Trick will play DURING qualifications. WTF? How does that work?

All well beyond their sell date: IRL, Cheap Trick, Gene Simmons, Carey
in Mindless, what happened to Smellencamp?
