.... so, it isn't about the racing?

Getting revved about a Palm Springs Grand Prix

Stefanie Frith

"The proposal comes from Event Management Group and Creosote Partners on
behalf of the Indy Racing League."
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Mr Joseph Heitzler
Chairman/Chief Executive Officer
Event Management Group"

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wow! Hugo Chavez *and* Jargon Joe? That's a team that'll have Champ
Car shaking in its shoes!

"If they put Jargon Joe in there, who in their right mind would deal
with these guys?"---Smokey

"Heitzler's been involved in 19 lawsuits over the years."---Ken Plotkin

"I cannot believe you are making excuses for them not spotting Heitzler
as the shyster he was."---"Harry Stamper"

And (from his palatial home somewhere in the woods):

"As you know, at TOCH we recently hired Joe Heitzler as our accountant.
With a resume as a senior accountant at Arthur Anderson we just
couldn't pass him up. FTR, he had noting to do with Enron. In fact,
when he gets to Texas he normally leaves it as fast as he can.

"Well, to make a long story short, Joe's really fucked things up. Our
books are in a mess. We're almost broke.

"We're down to feeding our CHUMPS Cheeze-Wiz and some sort of chemical
wine. They haven't yet noticed. They really like the stuff. But
sooner or later we're bound to lose the con.

"Reason you gotta stay mum on all this is there's a really good chance
TOCH will have to close its doors. Worse yet, this news comes just
after we sent out our Letter of Intent assuring our residents of our
continued commitment. "

That one, simple, short sentence sums up quite a lot about the last ten
years of open wheel racing in the United States

Yep. Contrived racing? Sure. Real racing? Not so much.
