Default Peter Windsor Agrees with Me! - 05-11-2007 , 04:28 PM

Anybody watch the Friday F1 practice on SpeedTV? The commentators
and Windsor were talking about the one American in F1, Scott Speed, and
Peter Windsor asked if it was true that America's "premier" open wheel
series only has ONE American - Graham Rahal? He seemed very
shocked by this fact.

Yep Peter, you aren't the only one shocked. But, you are wrong
on one part - America's premier open wheel racing series has more
than one American and one of those Americans that goes by the
name of Marco will become America's next F1 champion.

So "premier" in fact that, unlike the IRL, chumpcar has to
pay for ANY network to broadcast their events cum parades.

"By Champ Car's own admission, its deal with ABC/ESPN is
a time buy." - Steve Ballard, Indianapolis Star sports reporter
http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dl...S0106/51010006

"Champ Car has been paying to be on television since 2002."
- Robin Miller, SpeedTV
http://www.speedtv.com/commentary/34136/?page=1

"Champ Car buys it's time on the networks, which isn't the
best situation." - Bob Jennings, WORLD O' RACING
http://www.bjwor.com/050804.html

"(Look at) the air time Champ Car has to buy for any
exposure." - George Katinger, FastMachines
http://www.fastmachines.com/archives...p?champcar_rss

"As for television deals, the IRL is way ahead, thanks to
the Indianapolis 500. George and the IRL have "rights
fees" that are contracted through the 2009 season with
ABC Sports and ESPN. Meanwhile, Champ Car's TV
deal is a "time-buy" agreement. This means Champ Car
buys airtime, due mostly to poor Nielsen ratings." - Greg Zyla

How old were you? When Scott Goodyear was screaming towards the first Canadian
Indy 500 victory, fucked up, and Jacques ended up winning?

It was 1995!

The Indy 500 was never the same after

If Scotty hadn't fucked up, it would have been a 1-2 Canadian win for that
race, with Goodyear as number 1.

No, it doesn't, chump moron. But do prove me and all
the above professional motorsports writers wrong (a
truly herculean task) with documentation, a quote or
so much as a scintilla of evidence that would suggest
otherwise. As even a dimwitted pithead like you
might successfully guess, I won't be holding my breath.

No, it doesn't, chump moron.

Yes, it does, cocklick.

It is a "time buy" from the perspective that the only way that TG will
give TV rights for the Indy 500 is to force the network into covering
the rest of the IRL series. So call it time-buy or whatever. The rest
of the IRL series would have no coverage if it wasn't for Indy.
Considering the waning interest in Indy, that arrangement may not last
too long.

(not cross-posted like the idiot does)
