.. and for CART and IRL, it's as a feeder series for F3000.

Which is a feeder for the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.

Too bad Alex Mueller had to take a provisional to start in Martinsville.

I would have thought his superior road racing skills would have helped
to qualify on his time.

I started attending these races in the 70s (BC -- before CART) and that has
not been my observation.

YMMV.

Oh, so you're the guy that's been watching racing since the 70's.... I'm
sure there aren't any other long time race fans round here. Retarded pit
windows, high downforce packages, bundled tickets, engine manufacturers
turning to the competition to get equipment on the road, four week-two
week-three week indy. 25/8 rules, cancelled races, two cars in the stands
in two weeks. Quality and safety are both down compared to 15 years ago.

Maybe its not been your observation snorky mcdumbass, but the thousands of
fans who no longer show up, and the millions who quit watching must have
observed something.

I started out very anti-IRL but TJMC helped me convert a few years ago.
Now that most of the best OW drivers are in the IRL, the whole IRL/CART
argument seems kinda moot, really.
Not sure I helped all that much, G. I think I remember urging some
NASCAR fans to take a look knowing by experience that as oval fans it
would be hard not to enjoy the IRL once you saw the product.

I think two things help the more open minded NASCAR fans. First they're
willing to take that look and secondly most arrive without an IRL/CART
agenda. To that extent you guys are in a somewhat unique and enviable
position.

Okay, okay, so the quality of the posters on these ngs has diminished
greatly.

Thanks for pointing that out.

I'm no expert on OW, but other than JPM, who was the last CART driver to
go to F1, especially after the split? Villeneuve? Most F-1 drivers
come out of Formula 3000, don't they?
Yes. Some go directly to F1 either to race but most normally test for
several years. In the past others, like Montoya, have come over to CART
almost on loan or options.

Those days, regrettably, are pretty much over. A good test will be what
happens with Bourdais. He's more or less trying to follow the same
track as JPM. The difference being Sebastien is running in CART's
current buzz cars with dismal competition...not the beefy formula and
field Montoya raced while here.

In today's world it's more than likely those F3000 drivers coming over
to race whatever CART has become will get stuck here. Junqueira is one
example of that.

And since the IRL oval racing is not conducive to F1, many other drivers
with aspirations for F1 will probably not be chosen out of the IRL.
Dixon is presently your model here.

From what I've seen the last few
years, CART's no feeder series for F-1. More like one of the two North
American OW series a driver not up to F-1 standards goes to.
F1 has always been the thorn in CART's inferiority complex. Thinking
itself to be less of a series, many CART fans turned to the
rationalization that some of their drivers (JV, CDM and the like) were
being recruited for F1. This somehow made them feel more comfortable in
their own skins.

Now since that small trend seems to be over, our CHUMPS have developed
yet another rash increasingly showing us their discomfort.
