Default San Jose' Mayor asks for investigation of CCWS subsidy - 01-20-2007 , 12:34 PM

With the previous mayor and his assistants under indictment for
corruption. The current mayor of San Jose' is asking the council to
investigate such deals as the last minute back room deal that gave a $4
million subsidy to the promoters of the CCWS event in San Jose'. As a
council member Mayor Reed voted against the subsidy. The deal came
under fire due to the way it was presented to the council under the
cover of darkness so that no community comment was available. The CCWS
deal along with the waste disposal deal was a primary factor in the
investigation of the former mayor that led to the former mayor's
indictment.

Maybe you could read that it was not CCWS, it was the city giving
subsidies to the promoters. This is often done with events since the
payback in sales taxes, occupation taxes, other revenues to the city and
the influx of money offsets the subsidies.

A lot of other subsidies are provided for shopping centers and business
since they bring in money. But these are at the discretion of the city.

When politics change, those who give these kinds of subsidies are almost
always criticized. Its just politics as usual. You fell for it.

But its between the city and promoters. Not CCWS. I know this really
deflates your little attempt to take a legitimate shot at CCWS, but like
ALL the previous attempts, you have failed miserably.

We're used to your failure.

But thanks for playing.

As the old saying goes, when you lie with dogs you wake up with fleas.
There is a pattern arising when it comes to the people who do business
with CCWS and questional practices. As the other saying goes, you are
known by the company you keep.

Try re-reading my post. If you have the attention span and depth
knowledge to figure out what was written.

Its obvious you don't understand the economics of community development.
And you clearly don't understand how cities subsidize events that draw
out-of-towners.

But most of all, you havew no understanding of politics.

Come to think of it, you have no understanding of anything.

But spin what you will. I'll bet real dollars that no CCWS officials
are indicted becase a race promoter received support for one of their
races.

Are you willing to put ANY money where your mouth is? Or are you just
filling your posts with your typical bullshit again?

Poor ChampCar. Now they've even screwed up their race in Denver.

I swear, ChampCar is like ten cent whore - use her for a night then kick
her out. In ChampCars case - use it for the weekend and kick them out
after losing money. Actually, ChampCar reminds me of women in their 40's or
late 30's who dress like they are eighteen or twenty. Funny and sad as hell
at the same time. Living in a dream world. Thinking they are somethign
they are clearly not. lol.

From Denver Post:

Champ Car head says local prospects look dim
By Mike Chambers
Denver Post Staff Writer
denverpost.com

"Champ Car World Series president Steve Johnson confirmed Wednesday that the
Grand Prix of Denver might not take place this year and beyond.

In addition to lacking a local promoter and title sponsor, the annual street
race on the Pepsi Center grounds has been bumped from its 2008 August
weekend because the arena will be preparing for the Democratic National
Convention.

"We have some challenges that we have to solve for the event, and there are
a number of challenges - from the promoter, to the sponsor, to even the
event date," Johnson said. "We are in contact with a number of people to see
if we can pull this off."

Pepsi Center spokesman Brian Kitts confirmed that the arena has revoked
Champ Car's 2008 race date.

"It doesn't give us much flexibility from a date standpoint," Johnson said.
"Dealing with the folks at the Pepsi Center, with all the things they have
going on, you have to be flexible."

Champ Car's European expansion races that were added Sept. 2 and Sept. 9
could have a negative impact on saving the Denver race, which has been held
in mid-August the past three years.

Champ Car's 2007 schedule features back-to-back races in Elkhart Lake, Wis.
(Aug. 12), and Denver (Aug. 19), then the series heads to Europe. With the
DNC conflict in 2008, the race likely would have to be moved to June or
July.

Kitts said the Pepsi Center is willing to work with Champ Car to find a 2008
date, but it won't be easy.

"The Grand Prix is the biggest event that we ever have done," Kitts said.
"It has so many moving parts, it will always be the biggest thing that we
do. So it would be difficult to just slide it in and out.

"But we like the event, we think it's good for the city. We've been partners
from the very beginning and we would hate to lose it. Anytime you put as
much effort in a project like the Grand Prix, you want to see it succeed."

Before last year's race, local promoter Bob Sutton, then CEO of Centrix
Financial, pulled out because of business problems, and Centrix withdrew as
title sponsor.

Champ Car went on to promote the event by itself without a title sponsor.
The sanctioning body isn't likely to do that again.

"We want to be in Denver," Johnson said. "It would be unfortunate if we have
to postpone the event."

The venue wants the race and Champ Car wants to be there without
footing the whole bill itself. Denver has a big one-time event in 2008
that may make it impossible to fit Champ Car into the venue's calendar
that year.

Exactly how has Champ Car mismanaged this?

The politics in Colorado are almost impossible to deal with. Maybe if
Champ Car were an environmental group trying to save the endangered
Colorado spotted tree frog, they might have better luck.

Remember the Olympics? Its just gotten worse since then.

The article cited by the shit-stirrer doesn't even say there's any
local opposition. It says Champ Car doesn't want to pay out of pocket,
and it may not be possible to find an '08 race date that works for both
the site and Champ Car.

By putting it on the '07 calendar?
