I don't expect any more response from David on this matter than you got
from him about the "dropping IRL ratings" subject.

He only swings at the easy pitches.

Indy 500 ratings commenced their precipitous decline in
'77 with the advent of CART and really only commenced
a significant upward recovery trend last year.

Also well up last season were the IRL's: overall television ratings,
web traffic, attendance, merchandise sales and sponsor exposure.

CCWS/OWRS ratings continue, in every category, to be well
below detectable levels.

Nige and Emmo looked great in the GP Masters series this year! What has Al
been doing this year?

Actually Id love to see what F1 would do on an oval. What would have been
fun would be a back to back weekend at Indy. One weekend the road course
and the other the oval. Focus on one's business is all about the attitude
of those leading it. Road course, oval, street course of superspeedway,
most of the basic functions of getting a race together are the same
regardless of how the pavement if there is any is poured.

Well...yes. One or two special occasions of F1 on ovals would be a
lot of fun. Didn't some of the F1 drivers say they'd rather do the
USGP on the oval instead of the road course?
Apparently Michelin didn't agree with that sentiment last year.

But if some promoter or TV guy decided to move F1 to mostly ovals,
that would be the beginning of the end. Even if some of the ovals
were dirt.

It doesn't have to be that way. I know people see racing as entertainment.
That's a BIG mistake. It is a sport. A sport there to make money, but this
is not like a tv show. The biggest mistakes made in racing lately have been
dictated by TV networks. They pay to cover the event not to control it.
Entertainment tries to artificially insure the outcome is something that is
exciting. A sport will allow that outcome to happen as a natural part of
the competition.

TV is the ruination of so many things. ESPN nearly killed Midget
racing when they dictated starters. Fortunately they lost interest in
short track before permanent damage was done. Now USAC is busy
killing Silver Crown with their fetish about TV (even on an obscure
cable station) being necessary.

Spec engines, chassis's, green white checkereds, late race cautions to bunch
the field all send many forms of racing into the entertainment area. A late
race caution for debris that is off the racing line so you can bunch the
field for a green white checkered taints all the events up to that point.
If it happens naturally fine.

Not to mention how TV has destroyed the baseball World Series and the
sense of community that used to accompany it.
Interleague games are a damnation on the head of baseball.

creative minds are still out there. The next Smokey just may not be found
because there really isn't that much of a need for inovation in racing these
days. The new technologies are out there, its just that no one now is
trying to find them. (F1 being the exception)

Guaranteed there will not be another Smokey.
Nor a Smith.

The more important question regarding AU, Jr's return is whether or not
he finished to tour with Betty Ford.

He was washed up before he joined the IRL. His return is only a
publicity stunt aimed to generating another IRL 500 news story.

TG is really scraping the bottom of the barrel.

Pathetic.

Don't worry; I'm sure Dr. Kevorkian will be out well after your heart
explodes from pumping against your exceedingly disproportionate amounts
of adipose tissue. In your case, there will be no need for assistance.

It does. But that was when there were enough to have a meaningful bump

Are they doing that now? What's next - wild cards instead of pennant
winners making it to the World Series?

I have not watched baseball seriously since Bob Lemon pulled Tommy
John for a pinch hitter in the third inning of the first game of the
1980 (or so) world series, thanks to being brain damaged by the DH
abomination.
