ALMS: Meira and Gidley Get Highcroft

Highcroft Racing, which will begin an association with Honda/Acura for
an American Le Mans Series effort next year, seems to already be tabbing
into the Japanese manufacturer's pool of open-wheel expertise: the squad
has tabbed two open-wheeler, current IRL IndyCar ace Vitor Meira and
former CART and IRL "supersub" Memo Gidley, for next weekend's Petit Le
Mans race at Road Atlanta.

Meira and Gidley will share the AER-powered Lola LMP1 prototype with
team owner/driver Duncan Dayton.

Together with Andretti Green Racing and Fernandez Racing, Highcroft will
campaign Honda Performace Development engines badged as Acuras next
season. Its drivers remain TBA, however, and Meira and Gidley could
become frontrunners for the two full-time seats if they perform well at
Road Atlanta.

It's not unusual for drivers from o/w to take the "third seat" in a sports
car endurance race. Follow the Grand-Am series 6 / 9 hour events, Petit
Lemans or Sebring and see for yourself.
