What do I think?

1) this was an RP project all the way. Why isn't quite clear.

2) MIS gets screwed. Methinks this would not have occurred had RP
still owned MIS.

Why not. Would just add to their 10 year old and growing record of
bonehead moves.

Why is not returning to an event that is likely losing money and has been
for some time a boneheaded move? At some point the IRL has to have some
events outside of Indy and Texas that can make money not lose it.

They scheduled Belle Isle less than a month after the MIS race. They
are putting all their marketing behind the Detroit race and they
apolgized to MIS for the 2007 scheduling. Now tell me whose fault
then this is? Anyone who has been to a race at MIS knows how great
the track and racing.

If people don't go when there is no conflict AND the race is pmotoed
properly then that's a different story. Taking your logic further the
IRL should then be reduced to a 2 race series and can conclude after
the month of May plus the Texas race. Works for me.

Well it might surprise you that I have been to a Cart race at MIS and it was
a great track. But attendance has been good since the wheel made the
stands. It was a racing accident and no ones fault, but the impact to the
business of open wheel racing there has been huge.

I frankly would not expect the IRL to get scheduling any better than they do
winners and at least two winners never made victory lane. One even got
slapped for his trouble. Yet at some point, races have to become a
business. Right now you probably are right that it would be a 2 race
season.

fortyYep it was a RP project I don't doubt. *It could be to keep a presense in
the area. *IRL looking to ditch MIS? *Id guess it was more likely theother
way around and this time they got some warning.

Wasn't the IRL surposed to be an all oval series again??? *How do the heros
of the American short tracks get to Indy now without road racing
experience??? *Hmm sure falls in with the vision
If you were to do your research you will find that TG never stated that
the IRL will always be an oval only series. This along with the second
part of the "i bring my hammer to work everyday" quote as being "to
nail the final nail into cart's coffin" are just myths started by
cart/cc supporters.

Well all oval was in the press release at the founding of the IRL released
by the speedway. Might have been a Fred Nation production, but it most
certainly an all oval original concept. Remember it was to provide those
all American heros of the short tracks a way to Indy again. Trouble is
99.9% weren't qualified to run at Indy without more experience. Even the
speedway kind of admited that with the formation of the IPS.

Well even if it is myth like you state, (and I doubt it because the quote
was reported to happen at the same time he made the quote about going to be
bigger than F1 and Nascar which you don't seem to dispute) let's just look
at his actions and not his words.

When Cart went through bankruptcy he made no attempt to aquire the series on
the cheap. Instead he tried to shut the series down by attempting to buy
only its most valuable assets. It didn't work.

When engines for Champ Car became questionable and it was annouced that KK
was going to buy Cosworth, some of his cronies attempted to intervene at the
last minute and ruin the deal. It again didn't work.

Then the attempt came in a cordinated effort to get tracks one by one from
champ car till the words "torturous interferrence" began to surface and they
backed off again.

The way I count it that's at least three times. Whether he said he took his
hammer to work every day or not, he sure hit his thumb with it a great deal.

ActuallyBiloxiwould be a great spot for a street race. *I wish the real

Yes I have seen it since Katrina and yes I do find it offensive to makea
joke about people suffering due to natural causes and compare it to the
results of ones own doing. *Very poor choice for a joke at best and very
sleezy if done intentionally. Not intended as a tongue-in-cheek suggestion or a joke. *Biloxiis a
recovering city that is looking for opportunities to promote itself
after Katrina. *Biloxican attrack fans from a number of cities that are
a very reasonable drive from the city. *It would be a much better choice
than Detroit.

Could my post have been worded better? *Probably.
It looks as if you are going to get your wish. There are published
reports that there may be a non points street race in Biloxi in 2007,
with a points race in 2008 and then the event would move to a speedway
being planned for 2009. Along with the IRL event the promoter is
looking at adding two fulltime teams for 2007 and beyond.
