Well technically you are correct the grandstands do hold 66,089.
However you forgot to add
50 Luxury Suites
210 seat Private Kentucky Club
2,000 seat Bluegrass Club

which puts the capacity well over 73,000. Let's see 1/4 of 73,000 is
approximately 18,000. That would mean there were by your estimate
55,000 there. And this wonderful track does have a wonderful area all
along the tri-oval where 1,000's of fans can stand in the shade and
still watch the race. This is one of the most fan friendly tracks
around. And yesterday this area was packed the couple of times when I
walked through. So I would say 62,000+ was about right.
