Default 1993 Cherkee Laredo - front end repair - 07-02-2008 , 10:02 AM

My nephew just bought a 1993 Cherokee that hit a deer last fall and has been
sitting ever since. It had a complete tune-up just before he hit the deer.
He paid $250 for the Jeep.

The entire front end was smashed. Fenders and Hood are perfect. I had to
break all the spot welds on the unibody bumper and pull the whole twisted
mess back into a straight frame again using my S10's front hooks as a
puller.

I replaced every spot weld with sheet metal screws and put rust inhibter
back on them. All is straight again.

I ordered a Header Panel and a Grill online and they are on the way. We
have two sets of headlights, turn signals and blinkers from a junk yard with
alignment screws and wiring harness.

Is there anything else as far as brackets and etc I will need to finish
putting the front pieces together? The person before took everything off and
god knows where everything went. We have the bumper cover but it looks
pretty ragged so I will order one of those as well.

The rest of the truck is perfect. I fixed a few broken things due to the
former owner trying to hook up sub woofers and etc. I checked the garage
door opener compartment and a iPod Nano fell out. Good deal so far for
$250.

The radiator and condensor have been replaced. Appears the front wheels are
off alignemnet by 1/4" from front to back by just checking with a tape
measure. The truck runs great.

good advice. I'm taking it to my school auto class and the instructor will
do it for free.

Have someone weld those parts back up. Screws will not provide enough
strength in an impact and will galvanically corrode even if you did
put rust inhibiter on them.

Not that front bumpers do much these days.. 2.5 mph rated and all.

My CJ7 is a truck, it is made and drives like one and is registered as a
Utility Vehicle which is a truck and the Cherokee can also be classed
that way, it was made before the 'SUV' name was coined.

They also are classed as trucks when it comes to emissions and bumpers
and such.

Jeeps aren't cars, that's for sure...

I agree. I just get tired of the Politically Correct people who cant help
but embarrass themselves complaining about something so trivial.

I ended up finding a new header panel and chrome grill, new for $71.50
shipped. Cheap aftermarket stuff but at least it will be legal to drive and
look good again.

It's almost complete again. All the lights and grill are in place. Now
just for the bumper cover and two inner fender wells. The plastic wheel
wells were crushed.
