Thanks for the info....Still more questions though...

Is that going to solve the slippage? How does that joint work?
Obviously, my steering wheel will now be 3" closer. What do I need to
do to correct this?

It's not a pinch bolt on the wheel side(There is a pinch bolt on the
column side). It has an interior flexible rubber boot with a metal
exterior that connects to the u-joint. Because of the rubber
coupling, I can flex it back and forth a 1/2"+-. Thanks for any
suggestions. BTW, I put a 3" body lift on it. It looks as if that
might have caused the steering rod(?) to expand to accomodate the
lift...

So, I went to check it out and I found the linkage between the column
and the steering rod. On one side of the u-joint was a pinch bolt onto
the steering column and on the other side was a rubber joint of some
sort that looks like it could move back and forth. When I turn the
steering wheel this was where the slipping was happening. I couldn't
get it any closer together or farther apart and I can't tell how this
union works...Any suggestions?

I have an 89 Wrangler with tilt wheel and manual transmission.
When I
turn the wheels all the way to the right or left, the steering
wheel
can continue to spin, causing misalignment of the steering wheel.
What is the problem and how do I fix it? Thanks- Hide quoted

Well, the steering column has a slight bend to it, this joint makes it work
around the corner. The steering wheel was raised, but the steering box
remained in the same place, this stretched the column by the body lift
amount. My brother did a body lift, but his was only one inch, so we did not
encounter this problem on his Jeep.

Needs a steering shaft extension, doesn't he? Three inch body lift, damn!
Unless this is a diy, the kit manufacturer should have said something.

Had the OP asked here first, I'm pretty sure we would have advised him to
not do it.

He may have damaged the steering column or the joint too.
