Default 91 hard top on 81? - 12-29-2006 , 09:48 PM

Going to look at a $500.00 91 YJ tomorrow, guy had it up for sale for 3
grand, but he parked one day and left it in nuetral, rolled and smashed it
up a bit, said it is still drivable. Anyway I busted a window and part of my
hard top out of my 81 CJ7, will the hard top off this fit? Had a freind with
a YJ that put a CJ top on, but don't know if there is a problem going other
way or not. I figure if it fits, a 500 dollar 4.0L YJ sounds pretty good,
guy said he just put in a new fuel tank, fuel pump and starter.

Greg,

Not sure on the hard top fitting or not, but if you don't buy it, i'd
like to know where it is and a contact number for it.

Thanks,

Carl

What did it do, roll down an embankment? How much damage can you do rolling
in neutral? A $2500 drop in price implies some pretty major damage, IMHO.

Yup it fits, the tubs are the same. You will have to adjust the
windshield rake though likely. Just loosen the two bolts at the top of
the quick release bracket, they are oval holes for adjustment. Just did
mine today when I switched from soft top and doors to all hard ones.

The YJ hard top back window doesn't have a latch. The tail gate closes on
it to keep it shut. I am sure you could rig something up.

Don't think you'd want to come to west coast of Canada and catch two
ferries to get it.

Haven't seen it yet, going out tomorrow, but he said it munched the hood,
fenders and busted front window and frame. He was renting a house and it
sold, so he has to get out and has no where for YJ to go.

may as well carry on, no wait, tranny is TJ. Have to call it franken jeep.

Bummer for him, good for you, I guess. You guys all suck, finding $500
Jeeps.

Still more damage than I would have expected from rolling, but what the
heck.

Hoorah for $500 Jeeps.
What you're not understanding, Clint, is the magical powers associated
with the name 'Greg'. It's kinda like that Eddie Murphy SNL sketch
where he went undercover as a white guy - we get preferential treatment
that the rest of society has no idea about. Of course, now I'll
probably be killed for telling you about it.
