Can a 4-tire TPM system be "mistakenly" reprogrammed to a 5-tire TPM system causing an error message to display on the EVIC reading "TIRE SENSOR BAD/MISSING"?? If so, can this be reset by the owner and how? Thank you |

Well, I am not Jeep certified, but I am a good reader as well as a bored one so I read some of that link posted by DougW. I found this: Upon special request, the 4-tire system modules can be programmed by the dealer to turn on the 5th spare tire bit. As to if they 'made' the 'mistake', well, the service guy's implication the spare is an issue, implies they screwed up to me...?? Yes, I have retrained the sensors and all four were able to reset fine. On BUST, the boot up self test, the EVIC was still reading "...BAD/MISSING SENSOR" which tells me it is looking for the extra one that is not there. I believe it has been reprogrammed, intentionally or not, to look for 5 sensors on a 4 sensor system. |

Yes, I went to his link he referred from my other post and it was very informative; I bookmarked it for reference use. I am just now wondering if there is way to reset that back to a 4-tire system without going back to the, or a, dealer. There is a darker, more nefarious, side to this. I have /reasons/ to believe the sales guys had the service guys mis-programmed my EVIC just to get me back to either try to sell me a car (their customer waiting room is in the show room adjacent the fancy parts dept) or to way overspend on a extra tire pressure sensor and convert my 4 tire system into a 5 tire system unnecessarily. This dealer is well established locally, I've used them for over a decade+ for over 3 JGC's I've owned without flaw. They just have some new people there that do not belong there. A few very rotten apples, so to speak. I posted the same message on the rec.auto.manufacturer.chrysler list, hoping an honest technician will help out. There are out there!
