I think they are all still doing it under license to DuPont. It will be
interesting to see what happens when the patent for 134A runs out.
134a is already scheduled to be phased out, and its the same year that the
dupont patent expires. i think its '08, would have to confirm.f

the EPA is a self-serving whore that will not stop, as they must continually
find fault in order to justify their existance. now that automotive
emmissions have gone about as far as they realistically can, the EPA is
going after small engine emmissions and all in the name of "saving the
environment" which sounds good in theory but its gonna hit hard in the
wallet.

as of '06, 13 seer is mandatory. just wait until the next time you have an
a/c unit replaced......and the customer looks at the service tech as if its
his fault.

So we are going to have to install a $300 catalytic converter on our $99
mower?

My parents finally got central A/C last year. The guy explains all the
pros and cons of the different models and efficiencies. What surprised me
was when he said the higher SEER models had poor reliability and actually
discouraged that choice.

You could carry around a huge block of dry ice. You wouldn't have to
mop that off the floor. ;^)

Perhaps we should just carry around huge blocks of ice.

If you bore a few holes of appropriate size you will have ice chips and good
cupholders!

Hi all. Every spring my ac doesn't work(94 grand cherokee), so I charge it
and everything seems to be fine until the next spring. $10/year isn't bad.
The ac doesn't work great, but it keeps things cool enough. What I'm
wondering is would it be worth it to take it to someone who could put a
vacuum on it to get all the air out first? I'm guessing air/moisture gets
into the system over the winter and reduces the efficiency of the system.

Thanks for any help.

Nathan, shame on you. That was uncalled for. I'll have you know I've
