Default Oil Explosion - 06-30-2003 , 05:29 PM

I need some auto help. I have an 89 Jeep Wrangler. I noticed today that my
engine had clear smoke coming from it so I pulled off the road and popped
the hood. I noticed my oil cap on top had busted and I basically lost all my
oil. After getting oil and a new cap its running sluggish. Like trying to
cut out in low gear and feels like some of the power is gone. Any advice?
Did oil get into my distributor cap or what could be causing this. Thanks

Rob

Pull the distributor cap and have a look to see if its dirty. If the engine
spattered oil everywhere, then clean it all up with your favourite
degreaser. Did you really lose all your oil - was there any on the dipstick
? Did the temperature guage rise ? Is it difficult to crank in the morning
from cold ?

I wonder if you have soaked your air filter element with oil? That will
restrict air flow through it. Now might be a good time to check whether
your PCV or CCV system (don't remember which you have) is working properly.

What if I added too much oil?

A lot too much can blow your crankcase seals...

It will act sluggish just before it seizes up....

The crank hits then foams the oil, the pump can't pump foam. Engine
seizes up.

If you did, drain some down fast.
