I have a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The inside dome lights were left on for about 2 days, thus draining the battery. After hooking a jump up to it I can only get it started while applying pressure to the gas pedal. The engine turns over just fine. As soon as pressure is removed from the gas pedal the vehicle shuts down. After removing the booster cables the battery doesn't have enough charge to turn over the engine again. I am not mechanically inclined when it comes to autos, but my guess is its the alternator. Does anyone have any suggestions/advice before I take it to the mechanic?? I'm not opposed to replacing the alternator, but just looking for a little education before having it towed in, especially if it might be something simple. Jon |
