Default Rear diff swap - 04-25-2007 , 01:24 AM

Good day,

Today I was looking at late a model (2004 I think) Jeep Renagade. It's
not so much that I am interested in buying the vehicle itself, but I
was wondering if I could swap the rear differential (with the dash
controled electronic lock) into my 2004 Jeep Liberty?
Any insight would be gratly appreciated

The limiting factory here is if a E-locker is availble for the axle
you have in you Liberty because it is the axle type/design more than
vehicle model that determines your aftermarket differential options.

Find out the track, or wheel to wheel width. If it is the same, chances are
this can be done with a little welding. A cheaper alternative might be to
install a Trak-Loc into the Liberty.

Ditto, especially with that Mickey Mouse front end the Libby has, the
ratios would be wrong for sure.

If you read it he says he wants to know about swapping out the
differentail, not the complete rear axle. (it is not very efficent to
swap complete rear axle to get a posi or locker in it unless your
current axle design does not support that option)

Do you think the Wrangler he was looking at with the external locker
control would fit his garage?

I did read it, but people in Usenet never know what they want really. It
won't fit in the Libby housing, so changing the axle is the way to go. You
may complain about my ability to read, after you learn to spell properly.

Cheers.
