Default 94 ES300 power antenna problem - 06-22-2003 , 04:12 PM

Hey List,

this week i bought a pearl white 1994 ES300. 88K, tan leather, moonroof, no CD
or heated seats though. Interior is in like-new condition, exterior only a
couple of door dings and the bumpers are a little faded. $9000 plus a 90
cutlass supreme with 150K miles and crap tranny on trade-in. Price also
included new axles (had torn boots), new timing belt and water pump, new valve
cover gaskets and a new cam position sensor (leaked oil).

only other problem with the car was the power antenna didn't go up and down and
it was bent. so, i took it apart and found the plastic cable was broken inside
the motor. discarded mast with cable, ordered new one from Lexus dealer for
$70. The way i understand it, to reinstall you must turn the radio on and let
the motor cycle, then collapse the antenna, stick the plastic wire into the
motor with the teeth facing the rear bumper and push it in as far as it goes
into the gears. have a friend turn the car off and let the motor pull the
antenna in. well all goes fine until the last 6 inches or so of the antenna,
then it starts to grind a little and stops. so about 5 to 6 inches of the
antenna sticks up, but maybe one in 10 times it goes all the way down (even
though it grinds). everything in the motor seemed ok, no broken parts, all the
cogs were good. what's the deal?
