Default Mounting license plate - 02-10-2004 , 09:12 PM

'03 ES 300 - Looks like there are 2 dimples on the front bumper where I
can insert the screws for the license plate mount. Can I just screw it
into the bumper or is there a special backing I need to worry about? TIA.

Drill out a hole slightly smaller than the dimple. I don't remember the exact
size
of the drill bit to use so work your way up in size. On the back side of the
bumper
around each dimple is a tube that the screw threads will grab. Select two 1/2
inch
self-tapping screws of the same diameter as the bit you used to drill the hole,
or
buy a license plate installation kit and use those screws

Lexus makes a mount, don't screw it right into the bumper!

Drill too deep or crookedly and you can knock the "tube" into the
bumper, requiring you to remove the bumper to reposition them.

If you go to your local Lexus dealer, they should install it at no
charge.

SHOUTING FOR EMPHASIS: DO NOT DRILL OUT THE HOLES. LEXUS HAS A BRACKET FOR
THE FRONT BUMPER. YOUR DEALER SHOULD HAVE ON AT NO CHARGE OR CHECK THE
TRUNK. THE FACTORY PUTS IT THERE AT DELIVERY.

I bought the front license plate bracket at the dealer for $42.00 (just
plastic worth about .0003 dollars on the open market). When you position
the bracket on the front bumper, there are registration holes in the bumper
cover that the bottom part of the bracket fits into. Once you've got the
bracket registered, then I drilled out the mounting holes in the bumper
cover. I used the self threading screws that came with the bracket to
secure it. Then I mounted the license plate to the bracket.

A medal for installing a license plate frame? Does 'medal' translate
from Lexuseese into 'license plate?' You need your license plate
now? Is that it? LOL

Sometimes they put the bracket in the glove compartment. At least that's
where mine was. And is.
