DaimlerChrysler, the world's fifth-largest automaker, said February
sales rose 4.3 percent to 207,743 vehicles, including the Chrysler
increase and a 28 percent gain for Mercedes-Benz.
Chrysler's fleet sales rose 38 percent in February, Gary Dilts, senior
vice president of sales at the Auburn Hills, Michigan-based unit, said
on a call with reporters and analysts. He said sales to individual
customers fell several percentage points, without giving a figure.
Dilts said Chrysler's offers of no-interest financing on some models
also helped sales. The company said earlier today that the offers would
be extended through the end of this month. ``It's not a surprise we're
going to continue the same program in March,'' he said.
