I can't read German, but I can make out that it has 1120 Nm of torque -
dehrmoment 1120 Nm. If I converted correctly that is about 840 lb-ft.
Whoa. I'm assuming that that is a diesel.

Correct.

Tech details (unfortunately also in German):

You'll probably find more here:

This is a monster!

As, in fact, Roland said...

Hello Juergen. Long time no see.

Another extended vacation, I see... ;-)

Hi Dori,

Yes, right.

Another extended vacation, I see... ;-)
Due to my former criticism of the lousy quality
of then-current Mercedes cars plus the inability
of the DC management (and epecially the CEO and
the board) I do have to clean all Stuttgtart DC
toilets with my toothbrush - that's what I do
when I'm on my "vacations"... ;-)))

But seriously: Times change, things change and
people too, so my time for internet discussions
nowadays is somewhat restricted due to other
interests and obligations.

And back to the Unimog:
The Black Edition is not that new, I remember
a basically similar special edition (not black)
some years ago.

The real point is that Unimog sales are declining
and DC has to open new markets to keep production
up, so if it helps to make the Unimog known esp.
in the Middle East the Black Edition is fine -
but the Black edition itself is a truly ridiculous
mutation of the U500 (an extremely professional
tool btw.).

And note: There is a CD audio changer coming
with the - um, ahm, eh... - vehicle, not a
DVD changer...

And yes, yes, yes, I keep silent about not being
able to play MP3 songs and that the headlights
are not Xenon and also about... ====:-((((

Hopefully the new Unimog 20 will be a success.

Juergen

I thought that over 800 lb-ft of torque sounded great. But that is
when I thought this thing weighed about 3 or 4 tons. Twelve tons is
about 6 to 8 cars, and even with that much torque, this thing is bound
to be far from giddy. The interior reminds me of equipment used to
move big stuff around-like semi trailers and airplanes. Even in a
world where people are looking for the next excessive luxury, this
seems a little too excessive. Actually far too excessive. I feel sorry
for Brabus. Not that they aren't into wretched excess, but this is not
a performance vehicle. It's akin to... to... Well, I can't think of a
worse analogy than taking a huge industrial tool and hotrodding it.
So it makes it a little hard to compare this to something outrageous
when it takes the cake. Ooh, I got it. Perhaps hotrodding a
bulldozer.

I guess it is rather fitting to bring it to the oil rich Middle East.

What happened to the Mercedes of 15 years ago that made well enginered
fine luxury cars that worked well and ran forever? A mercedes above
the attitude of 'look at my gimicky junk!' Oh well.

Just my two cents.

Bill
