If he doesn't like the quotes then he can have his own insurance company handle the claim. he said 'it's only a mini' It doesn't matter if it's only a bicycle. He ran into it and he's liable for the cost of restoring it to it's previous condition. Is there anyone out there who can advise me whether or not this is a good price It's not your problem whether it is a good price. It's his problem. or where to go to from here? Do you have insurance? If not then you'll have to go through the whole rigmarole of a letter of demand, and possibly eventually lawyers. I could threaten the guy with the police but what will happen then? Nothing. The police won't be interested. It's a civil matter not a criminal matter. Ultimately I just want my poor little mini fixed. And he knows you're young and easily pushed around. What I would do at this stage is either hand it all over to your insurance company to sort out, or have a lawyer write a "letter of demand" and send it to him. Strike early with a lawyer's letter and he will take you seriously. |

Graham, As I understand it, not giving your details and having a dispute over who pays what for accident damage is indeed a civil matter. However, driving without insurance is a criminal offence and the police are obliged to investigate if it is suspected that a driver is not insured. I have some knowledge of this, having been a special constable for the last 10 years. The police here in the UK thoroughly enjoy victimising motorists by issuing fixed penalty speeding tickets and we love that chap from Holland who invented the Gatso camera. It gives us a good excuse not to be out catching real criminals:-) Regards Alan |

And Alan was sitting next to Elvis in the spaceship, which I thought was kinda strange, but then they turned to me and said: The police here in the UK thoroughly enjoy victimising motorists by issuing fixed penalty speeding tickets and we love that chap from Holland who invented the Gatso camera. Also get the repairs done at the best body shop you can find. Ask your local Mini Club to point you in the right direction and get it done properly and don't use any insurance recommended repairers as they don't do a good job, yes they may give you a courtesy car and save you the hassle of taking the car there and fetching it back but the finished work won't be good trust me. Take him all the way mate. Taffy "-AD-" <sp4mtrap (AT) hotmail (DOT) com> wrote in message news:MPG.199d014aba2c27e8989b2b (AT) news (DOT) cis.dfn.de...
