Well I believe there used to be an overhead panel kit above the sun visors for Mini's back in the 1960's, so you could then mount your radio and stuff in it. I guess it was more popular back then, before they altered the roof lining and lost the head room from the MKIII Mini (1969/70) onwards. Anyway I've got this great but odd little movie on video that I recorded off the TV (channel 4, well S4C for me here in South Wales, UK of course! Well back then anyway, but I can get most stations with satellite now!) back in late 1986! Well I saw this MKII yellowy/orange Austin Mini Cooper S and stuck a tape in and I still have it today, but I've copied it to different tapes and it's a bit ropey now to say the least! But it's about 2 glamourous/sexy Mini-Skirted girls driving across Europe in that MKII Austin Mini Cooper S and they have a great time dancing in groovy psychedelic discoteques and sunbathing on the beach and stuff, but some dodgy bloke has hidden a 35mm film reel behind one of the Mini's spot-light covers and that bloke and his henchmen are then chasing the Mini all over Europe to get it back. So the girls see off a Porche 911 up a hill and a Lancia (forget the model now, HF?) up a hill too and finally they go back to Britain by ferry, but after the one girl discovered the film and she sent it for developing. Anyway there was nothing important on the film other than the dodgy bloke dressed in womans clothes. Yes he was a transvestite and the girls have a good laugh about it! Oh and the dogdy transvestite bloke ended up with one of their 35mm film reels by mistake and all he got was groovy images of the girls with the Mini Cooper S and a couple of blokes they pulled along the way too! ;O) But yes it's a classy little film and you see the Mini Cooper S loosing a big black American Buick on the Autobahn and through traffic in Brussels too and see it on a ferry up the Rhine, but to this day I've no idea what the film is called as I missed the beginning, other than it was made in 1969 by Gannet Films and starred Barry Gosney? Anyway the reason why I brought that up and waffled on a bit is because the girls Mini Cooper S had a custom Works style dash and one of those overhead fittings above the sun visors which housed a radio! So if anyone knows anything about this film please let me know as apart from asking S4C to check their archives I'm stumped. But i'd love a complete copy on DVD! Taffy |

Anyway after much searching I found this website dedicated to that film company and i've contacted them, so perhaps after almost 20 years i'll finally find out what that bloody film was called. Oh and perhaps there's a digitally remastered DVD release for it available too? Well you never know! |

Well I didn't get a response from them either (well not yet anyway), but I did from The Mini Cooper Registers Forum and this is what they had to say:- The film is called Vive Le Sport and was made for Dunlop. The female leads were Liane Engeman and (perhaps almost ironically) Beth Morris. The car is a Mk 2 S and a former BMC Publicity/Road test car regsitered LOB 884F. It was originally Red/Black but was painted Bronze Yellow for the film which was made in 1969 - presumably to make the car look a bit more up to date. If it were more up to date, it would be a BMW mini. If Taffy were more |

Well I did get a reply from "Gannet Films" themselves and this is it:- Hello the film in question was made for Dunlop and called Vive Le Sport. I will endeavour to track down a copy but it may take a while. It has not been commercially released. many thanks Ben Kellett And this is my reply:- Hello Ben, That's fantastic news as being a real Mini fan (and owner) and being a bit of a 1960's/1970's afficianado I love the film and would love to get my hands on a good copy. Mind you I think the time is right to get it released on DVD, well eveyone loves 1960's groovy images and the real Mini has a massive following itself. I'm sure even Porche 911 and lancia owners would find it interesting too? So yes that film would at the very least, be on every Mini owners film list, just after "The Italian Job" (1969) I'm sure. Many thanks too, Darryl Turner |
