Are there any oil stains on the road underneath it? Have you
inspected under the engine? How about the gear selector rod, where it
goes into the back of the gearbox?

If there's no noticeable oil leaks, check the crankcase engine
breather fitted by 2 bolts (beneath the brake master cylinder) with a
hose running to the back of the engine, this may be blocked/kinked or
need a clean?

Also try using ordinary Castrol GTX 15W40, well I always have done on
my 90' mainstream Cooper and it's past 91,000 miles and still running
fine. Although after a good run or continual daily use it eventually
does need a little top-up too.

Thanks for the response. There is no obvious oil leaks, and I will put the
Mini on axle stands on sunday to check the mentioned spots. What I recall
is that a Mini should be a bit oily in all the locations, but it should
not
be too much right? But how much is too much?

Are there any other locations to check? I would be much obliged for any
information I can get!

Hello Robbert,

Well if the oil is dripping or saturating an area then it's too much. But
to be honest there really shouldn't be any oil on the outside of the engine
and at the moment touch wood mine is dry and the oil is where it should be,
on the inside.

Hi Robert
All Good advice from Taffy,
Check the gear selector shaft oil seal, also check both driveshaft oil
seals, and while your under there, check for any oil drops from the bottom
of the clutch housing,
also the front crankshaft seal, this is behind the fanbelt pulley,
come back and tell us what you find ???
