Default rear shoes - which way? - 05-10-2006 , 01:06 PM

just bought a new set (of 4) shoes for the 2000 sportspack, as you know, the
shoes are not symetrical, ie one end has part of the material missing. -
is this the leading edge or the trailing edge? ie do i put the "missing"
part of the shoe so the drum hits that first, or the drum leaves on that
part? (if that is clear) ive been looking in haynes and another manual and
the pictures are not clear.

Well for a clear manual, you really should get hold of this book:-
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/1899238018/qid%3D1143392839/203-2065884-7642319
as every Mini owner who carries out servicing and work on their car should
have one. Well it makes a great partner for the Haynes manual, but the
pictures are far clearer and more detailed too. Okay it doesn't cover the
MPI Mini's (after 1996) as such, but Twin-Points are only slightly different
to other injection Mini's, so there's plenty in this book that's relevant to
you too!

And if you own an older mini, you will definitely need a service manual.

Hi,
The part that is "missing" is the trailing edge. If you imagine that the
rotation of the brake drum has pulled the lining along the shoe, that is
the
right way.
I have included a small jpg as an attachment.

Hi,
I tried twice to send the attachment, but each time it failed. The server
must be filtering it out.

No Keith it's appeared on Outlook Express twice mate, but I can't speak for
Google as I don't bother with that at the moment.

Right, the clearest diagram I have seen for putting the rear shoes on is in
the Metro Haynes manual (No 718) on page 114 Fig 9.3. You can't go wrong if
you look at that.

If you dont have it what it basically says is that the part of the shoe with
some friction material missing is the leading edge of each shoe. If you
want me to email you the page pls say.

The metro haynes is much better that the mini one for some of the identical
parts/setups and is well worth keeping handy alongside your mini one.

chris.
