I really feel that primary safety in the form of driver training is the way to reduce road crashes. Defensive driving should be part of the standard test and we should see periodical retests for all drivers after that. |

Couldn't agree more, but I think most people think of the act of driving a car as a right, rather than a priviledge. On any given day, you are surrounded by loons and extremely dangerous drivers: Imagine if you would be allowed to pull over any driver that is obviously dangerous, and put some dots on their license, eventually revoking it if they don't improve: That would make the road significantly safer. As a corollary: we need more unmarked police vehicles on the road, to be able to cope with just that. ... and all because people don't realise that the only way to make the roads safe is not to lower the speed limits and to put one million airbags in cars, but to make drivers think twice and drive safely.
