Default Why? - 02-22-2007 , 10:05 AM

I am sure I will not get a sensible answer but thought I would still
ask. Why have you picked alt.autos.mini to destroy it? It was a good
flourishing newsgroup which helped many people, you have by your
incessant rambling & abusive posts just about made it worthless. Was
that your aim, how do you benefit by it? I am just curious as to what
pleasure you get from it.

<de-lurk> I've not used this group much, though I'm active on a couple
of Mini forums. It was quite noticeable when I subscribed and read back,
that this used to be a good group, but about six months ago these idiots
came along.

I'm afraid it appears to be the way of usenet these days. Lots of groups
are dying because people have gone to forums or the groups have been
destroyed by mindless behaviour. Today I even discovered that a forum
for a different car that I've not visited for a couple of months has
gone the same way, and the club admins have had to take drastic steps to
try and patch it up.

The groups that are thriving seem to be those where the regulars club
together to drive out the idiots, the groups that have a real sense of
community.

I suspect this group has suffered through the demise of the classic
Mini, but it's not alone. Sadly it's all the way of the society we live
in - me me me, aggressive and abusive. I hear the way teenagers talk to
each other every day, then they think it's OK to say the same things by
email, not realising that they've crossed the line between hard-to-prove
slander and evidence-backed libel!

I don't know if we'll ever get back to being a civilised country. I
don't think we're very civilised now.

What? A fellow dexterphobe, eh?
It is sad that this group as very quiet when you block the offensive
posters.
BTW, I'm left handed.

Chris,, more like 18 months to 2 years these people have been verbally
abusing the visitors and residents in this NG,
but it hasn't deterred most regulars, I for one,, still check in every day
just to see what's happening and to "zap the crap"
A few other regulars do the same, we just don't acknowledge anything that
even resembles a Troll,
Like you said, most people have switched over to moderated forums where the
mini chat is thriving,

no doubt this will attract a load of verbal, but I wont see it,
Thank you outlook express for the block sender function,,
its brilliant,

Fitzy

Off you fuck, then, there's a good chap.
Plonk.
Careful guys, he's set a huge range of cross-posts on it. FU only to the
group you're posting from!
I plonked the twat too, but he keeps coming back under a new pseudonym.
Pretty sure he and I have history; don't know why as I've never abused
him or anyone else, but he's shown his true colours to me in another
group.
I have thick skin, I couldn't do my job without it!

good points Chris, but I'd just like to point out that the real Mini has not
'demised" , it still here and will be for many may years to come....
many of the regs on this NG tried the ganging up as you mentioned, but it
only made it much worse, to have it reached the point it is today, so now we
just ignore the toerags and just chat amongst ourselves.

Oh, yes, I know it's still here, I have three! But there are less and
less of them around. I know for example that the autograss clubs are
trying to find a different car that can race in class 1 because they
can't get hold of decent Minis any more (the people that own them now
tend not to let them go for a pittance!). Still, at least now, when you
see a Mini you know the driver drives it by choice, not because it's a
cheap small car.

Shame it has to be that way though.

must say Im pleased to hear that folk arn't out auto-crossing their cars,
its a sure way to stuff them. I use old Morris 1100's for autocrossing, I've
written of 3 now !

And yes its a shame, but hey its no different to ignoring a dumb arse at a
party or down the pub.
