Default Advice required on new car - 12-21-2003 , 06:57 AM

Hi,

I have recently posted an article about my Fiat Punto on the maintenace
newsgroup.

I am also looking to get a car for my wife since her 14 year old ford fiesta
is coming to the end of it's life.
Does anyone have any suggestions? My budget is 3000 pounds.
the car would be used for city driving and the occasional 40 minute drive on
motorway (that is when my punto is at the dealers for repair and I need to
get to work...).

Thanks

Auto Trader on line. Lost of good stuff.
1997 Citroen Xantia vsx, (top of the range) for £2000 ono.

I seriously doubt there's anything at all wrong with your Punto. Due to
the
way the tappets work (not actually tappets any more, but that's what
everyone calls them), they will always make a spot of noise while the oil
pressure builds up. If the oil really is ready for changing in 6 months,
are
you doing loads of short journeys? If you are, you ought to be on the high
maintenance servicing schedule and unless they're very helpful bods who
really don't like arguing with people, you'll do well to get them to
change
the oil for nowt.
I'm going to ring up tomorrow, at least I want them to hear it and get their
opinion, I hope they will at least do this for me.

I suspect they'll show you a couple of other Puntos and demonstrate them
making the same noise. An oil and filter change is probably £40 at your
dealer.
