I did say 146 not 156.

Assuming you realise that, are you still saying 120BHP is underpowered for
the smaller bodied 146 ?

Erm, too expensive for a 1.6. Watch the trim level, you want a 'Junior'
if you're buying a 1.6.

Same applies for the engines, though - it's an Alfa, ffs, so you don't
want some poverty lump.

The 146 Ti is a wonderful car, shame they never got the diesel lumps in
the UK, though.

Thanks Steve,

I thought the TS was higher up the range than the Junior. They didn't make
the Junior after 1999 according to Parkers.

I thought the TS was higher up the range than the Junior. They didn't make
the Junior after 1999 according to Parkers.
TS is the engine 'TwinSpark', nothing to do with trim levels.

Base model 1.6s and 1.8s are a bit pikey and often came with plastic
wheel trims. Eurgh. Just not right on an Alfa.

The Junior was a 1.6 TSpark with sports trim and alloys, however,
facelift models (You can tell, 'cos the grille gained a 'tache - came in
on a W-plate) were effectively Junior spec anyway (bodykit, alloys).
Same goes for the 1.8 - the spec. was significantly upgraded on facelift
cars.

I'd definitely want the 2.0, though - not only was it the most powerful
model in the range, but the 2.0 engine has a balancer shaft, meaning
it's a much smoother powerplant.

I love the 146Ti, it really is a modern-day Sud Cloverleaf.
