Knowing Pete, he'll buy the wrong Grandad and end up with a Twinker
engine instead of a Pinto then wonder why the fuck it won't fit.

If he got either, it'd be one helluva cockup, since he explicitly
states he wants a 2.9...

Missed that.

Plenty of rotting Sierra XR4x4 on fleabay.

So you missed "engine/box/diff" in the original post, too?

Do Sierra XR4s not have these?

or one they're selling?

MOT would be nice but isn't essential, need a Mk3 that drives well
but is ideally scruffy with a good engine / box / diff.

87-92 (non cat) would be perfect.

Cash waiting for the right one (maybe need more than one..)

there is a good sounding one on ebay for 300 buy it now

I just bought that one for £200.

Quite nice as well, all the toys work, engine is nice but slightly
tappety. Goes well....

Now, anyone else got a Mk3 Granada 2.9 they don't want?

You need more than one? This isn't the fabled engine-at-both-ends 6
litre 4WD kitcar is it?

Unfortunately not. I'm building at least two of this project, depending on
how No1 goes. Thing is, since someone mentioned doing a 2.9 Fiesta I'm half
tempted to do that as well now....

Can't see why not. There were quite a few RWD MK3 Essies done.

Yet you're going for the 2.9 motor...

No, XR4is are 2.8i. Different heads and no hydraulic tappets.

XR4x4s can be either, but the gearbox in the 4x4, whilst being either the
MT75 or Type 9 tend to be much closer to death than the autos in the Granny
2.9. Hence me looking for a 2.9 Granny

Because it's got a better injection system than the 2.8, hydraulic tappets,
and is slightly smoother than the 2.8i. I like the 2.8i but it's not ideal
for this application, besides, if I use the 2.9 then it's just that bit
easier to upgrade to the 24v one at a later date, although the 2.8 will mate
to the same box.

The 2.9 is also easier to tune as it doesn't have the siamese port heads the
2.8 is lumbered with. If I could get a 3.0 Essex with factory injection I'd
be using that, but that's a no-no.

I've got an RS2600 motor I could use, with the Kugelfisher injection system
but that'd be a waste.

I did an XR3500i a few years ago, well, '92 to be precise. That was very
amusing but too much like hard work.

Yup, not exactly expensive to sort, otherwise the engine is fine.
Compression is there, it's good on fuel (31 mpg at 80ish) and it still goes
well. A good buy for the money.

XR4s do, but don't have a 2.9.
XR4x4s do, but have a very different box and a subtly different engine.
