Let's see the highest *ratio* of options to base list price through a
manufacturer's car configurator.

318i / 20,465 base / 39,325 loaded / 92%

Ford and Jaguar configurators suck mightily, CBA with them.
Easier on the 1 series - 31810 for a 116 with everything, 99% on top of the
list price of 15995, and proof that you can still get a new car without
aircon.

In news:RKGdnVSOEudFb1zYRVnyvAA (AT) eclipse (DOT) net.uk,
Tim S Kemp <news (AT) timkemp (DOT) karoo.co.uk> wittered on forthwith;

Bit of a tangent here but a 1.6 litre engine in a Volvo S60. Is that
correct? Does the 1.6 have enough power to actually move the S60.
Wonder what the power to weight ratio is?

Meant S40. Sorry.

Anyway the S60 is only 1450Kg in basic form IIRC, so yes it would.
Just..

Ok, I admit it, I like Renault 5s.

Tim S Kemp (news (AT) timkemp (DOT) karoo.co.uk) gurgled happily, sounding much
like they were saying :

"Only"... for 98bhp to drag along... That'd be 66bhp/ton... not far
different from the 61bhp/ton of a 2cv...

And a diesel A3 can be £24k BEFORE any options...
Go tick-happy in the options, and you can get it to reach £35k,
according to Audi's rather entertaining "car configurator".

Heh. Those are fun.

How about the £27k MINI?
Or the £39k 1 series?
Or the £35k C-Coupe?

Just got an A classs to 34325 - looked at a C coupe in December that
had comand, bose, disigno, auto, panaoramic roof etc - very nicely
done but the value of the car was significantly less than that of the
options...

It's too easy with Merc, though.

OK... I think we have a challenge forming...

Let's see the highest *ratio* of options to base list price through a
manufacturer's car configurator.

Base rules :-

1. Two categories : German badge and non-German badge (Country of
nationality is deemed to be the "traditional" nation for that badge, as
sold in the UK. Ford count as non-German for the purposes of this.)
2. No base list price over £100k - I'm sure you could go REALLY silly with
some of the very bespoke brands.
3. Extra points for sheer humour value.

The winner gets to stand in a dealer and watch their faces whilst somebody
rings and asks about placing the order... then hangs up...
Bollocks, I just went through the Renault Magnum configurator only to
find it doesn't give you a price...
