It doesn't have to be in a crash. What if I have a heart attack or any
number otherwise rendered incapable or there is an immediate danger such as
fire, I'm pretty sure I'd want someone ... *anyone* to be able to open the
door and pull me clear.

Car jackings are a worry, it's very true. But usually the worst that will
happen there is you'll lose some property, in a real emergency you could end
up dead.

Both are pretty rare and unlikely, thankfully. Please don't get the
impression I drive around expecting this stuff to happen!

The car jacking I mentioned involved a rather large knife which was dropped
on the floor of the car during the struggle to get the driver out of the
car - the driver was on his hands free kit at the time and one of the
attackers was heard to angrily shout 'next time just stab the fcuker first,
then pull them out of the car' while they were driving off. This is why I'll
always lock my doors in traffic, regardless of the statistical risk.

(thankfully the phone was left on without the attackers realising and their
conversation was monitored - which identified them quite quickly)

Tell that to my colleague who was carjacked in Manchester.....

Yes, carjackings/mobile phone/handbag snatching do occur, but pretty
infrequently.

Like a accident or a breakdown - you cant exactly pick when they happen
unless you yourself know something the rest of us dont .
Agreed. Although you can probably make a better estimation of whether you
are likely to be carjacked than of whether you might breakdown or be in an
accident.
In any case, most people don't take dissproportionate mesures to avoid
these situations.

Help please.

I've recently bought an '04 Mondeo Ghia X & I'm wondering if the door
locks can be made to lock automatically after the car moves away from
a stand?

It's a common feature on N. American cars & being a Ford, it's
possible that it shares some of it's electronic systems.

I have noticed, but it's not in the driver's handbook, that if you
unlock the car with the remote, but do not ope any doors, the car
re-locks it's self after a short time. Strange!

I'd be grateful for any information.

You posted the exact same question 3 days ago and were given a link with
comprehensive instructions on it.

Q? No 2.

How do I "Undo" the autolocking feature?

(I had the sun-roof open whilst setting the auto-locking & I now have
problems persuading the sun-roof to close...)
