OK. While visting relatives in the US I got to drive a Bugatti Veyron 16.4.
Stick that in your pipe and smoke it.
No you didn't.

Dave {ð¿ð} (dave (AT) dave-thomas (DOT) co.uk) gurgled happily, sounding much like
they were saying :

Quote:
I drive an automatic 2.0 turbo Cit XM. 150bhp. I've also had the
identical car but with a manual box. The auto's a total slug
compared to the manual - which still isn't exactly a ball of fire -
but the auto is still over a second quicker to 60 than the last shape
auto 1600 Corolla.

So the so the auto was quicker! Just my point.

No, you fucking muppet.

In the case of my car, The auto is much *slower* than the manual
version - yet the auto is *still* quicker than your Corolla.

Fuck me, glaciers are quicker than automatic Corollas.

With reference to that, please expand on how your 1.6 Corolla was
like shit off a shovel.

Does not need expanding.

It certainly does.

S h i t o f f a s h o v e l = v e r y f a s t. Is that expanded
enough?

If you had half a clue, you'd sit there staring at it for hours
trying to figure out what it was.

Its amazing just how many nutters there are on Usenet!
Indeed. Some even try to claim that 1.6 auto Corollas are "very fast".

Quote:
Ho well, at least while you are here you are not causing mayhem on the
roads.
By driving faster than your automatic Corolla can manage, y'mean?

Apparently people can't breath above 60mph, y'know.

IMO any 1.6 engined automatic is a complete waste of time and money.
The
engine feels completely disconnected from the wheels. Possibly the
most
frightening car that I drove in recent years was an Astra 1.6 with an
automatic gearbox, impossible to get out at junctions or to accelerate
up a motorway slip road.

Well if you do buy

Who said I bought it?

and drive shit Automatics like Astra's what do you
expect?

Astra's what?

Just what I expect from an Astra driver!!

You're not making much sense. He was highlighting your poor grammar.
'Astras' does not have an apostrophe. Normally I wouldn't feel the need to
explain this but I feel as though you would never actually have got it heh.

Also, Corolla 1.6 auto, 60 in what about 13 or 14 seconds? Dude, my car is
slow, and will do 0-60-0 quicker than that.

You have quite obviously never driven anything even vaguely brisk.

Reminds me of my great Uncle who lives down in Cardiff.

As we wheezed up to a heady 28mph in his 1975 Marina, he turned to me
and said 'goes well, doesn't she?'
The Marina 1.8 auto was quite nippy actually in its day. Light with plenty
of torque. The one thing that hasn't improved with modern engines is low
rev torque - assuming size for size and normally aspirated. But like for
like cars are heavier now too.

His wasn't a 1.8 Auto.

It was some poverty spec manual. I assume a 1.3 A-series lump?

Had lovely melted cheese seats....

Multiple valves are largely to blame for that - they allow freer breathing
at high revs, and higher power, but harm the low-end.

Mined ewe, any half-decent modern multivalve diseasel has infinitely more
torque than any petrol - shame there's no decent spread of revs.

Which is why I prefer the 8v TSpark in the 75 to the 16v TSpark in the
156.

Christ on a bike, a mouthbreather.

I don't drive an Astra, I have driven an Astra. At no time have I ever
owned an Astra.

And you are talking total shite.

The VVTi Corolla manages 0-60 in 11.5 seconds.
THe Astra does it in 11.9 seconds.

That is both cars are total bloody slugs. Either car is out-accelerated
by the Smart ForFour 1.5 which is another bloody slug, but it still
manages 0-60 in 10.5s

Now go back to driving that imaginary Veyron.

I'd describe it as anthing other than wibbly-wobbly. Typical German
rock hard suspension.

I've seen lots of people whine about them, but I have no idea what
they are comparing them with, beats most cars other than the Focus
IMO.

The A classes I've driven have mainly been boring but perfectly acceptable.
Comfy enough but I've never really felt any compunction to drive one any
harder than "progress".
Tsk, not even to get the little triangle flickering on the dash?

But I bet it was better than the Astra he drove.
Jeesus H, but you're a thick bastard.
