Default Cat D Car Valuation - 05-03-2007 , 08:04 AM

I have been offered a BMW X3 that was a Cat D write-off and wanted to
know its value. What would be the approximate percentage 'off' the
normal price?

Thanks

Has it been fixed? If fixed, I'd say about 20% what it would normally go
for. If it hasn't, then that depends entirely on what's needing done.

Yes, the car has been fixed. I am also going to have it inspected by a
garage.

Find another one. It's not as if they're scarce.

For something like that to be Cat D, I'd presume it was nicked and
recovered. What did the scrotes do to/in it?

It was involved in a crash. The front left side was damaged. The
windscreen was also cracked slightly (this has been replaced).

The price is much cheaper than a normal X3. I was just unsure whether
is was over-priced or not.

Must have been fairly heavy damage to have been written off - or there's
some other factor involved.

Of course it is. It's an X3. It's just not as over-priced as most X3s.

Sorry, 'offered' was the wrong term used here. I actually looked for
and found the car.

If you plan to keep the car for a while and you're sure that it's been
repaired properly then it might be (relatively) good value. The
trouble is when you come to sell it and no-one wants it. Watching TV
the other day though apparently you can get categorised cars re-
categorised as "fixed" now which I wasn't aware of.

If the screen was replaced then I hope all the airbags etc were too.
You take a gamble and it's up to you to decide how much you want to
bet.
