Default Does this wheel sound like a Mini's? - 05-22-2005 , 09:28 AM

I need a spare wheel for my trailer (don't mind risking driving it
around town full of junk with no spare, but draw the line at a trip to
France!). Now I'm pretty sure the guy I got the trailer from said it
was built using Mini wheels; if so, a trip to the scrappy ought to sort
me out. (This is a 'custom' trailer, not an off-the-shelf factory-made one)

To try and avoid a wasted trip, can anyone advise if my existing wheels
sound like a Mini's? They are 10", with 145R10 tyres, and are secured
by 4 studs, on what look like 4" centres. Does that sound right?

Thanks
David

My trailer is on a mini sub frame. Just checked,-tyres are 145r-10.
4 stud wheels at 3" centres- but it's 4" across.
Sounds like the right ones.

ISTR that early Metro ones are similar but not interchangeable for some
Mini wheeled trailers. Can't remember why though...

Thanks for that. In fact, eventually I tracked down the firm that built
the trailer and checked with them; they confirmed it was indeed built
with Mini wheels.

Today I spent about an hour on the phone trying to track a Mini wheel
down; they are evidently quite hard to come by these days. Drove half
way across the county to the scrappy who had one, taking care to take an
existing wheel with me. Compared this side-by-side with the scrappy's
wheel, and although the diameter/hubs/stud positions etc matched, the
recess on the hub clearly didn't.

Scratched head, and phoned back the Trailer Guy. "Oh", he says. "So
are both sides of the wheel hub flat?" "Yes." "Ah, well, I mustn't
have used Mini wheels, those are trailer wheels. Sorry."

B*****ks.

David

Have a look at Towsure. They have a range of wheels. You never know.

I have 3 alloys in my old mans shed. I'll have a look to see the sizes as
i am sure they are the 10" minilites i had on a metro but removed due to
the tyres being hard to find.

I'll try and check over the weekend and if they are any use to you and
you live in or near Glasgow you can have them.

Thanks for that; in fact I've just been to a reasonably local trailer
dealer and invested in a brand new one. Ouch. But at least it fits!
