What if i am convicted of drink driving?

* You will have a criminal record
* You will be disqualified from driving for at least a year
* Your next vehicle insurance premium will significantly increase
* You will have difficulty hiring a car for the next 10 years
* Your lifestyle will change dramatically. It will be much worse if you
injure or kill someone
* You may have to retake your driving test and attend rehabilitation to
regain your licence

This is also interesting:

Criminal and motoring offences of drink/drivers who are high risk offenders
Author: Davies, G.P. and Broughton, J.
2002

- The offender who has at least two offences within three years who is more
likely to reoffend.

- In particular, repeat offenders who refuse to supply a specimen after
their second offence are likely to have committed a greater number of
criminal and motoring offences before becoming an HRO.

- They are also more likely to commit further criminal offences after being
sentenced for the second drink/drive offence.

It might.

But then, you'd think the first ban would do that...
You'd hope so, but if everyone who had ever driven just over the limit had
been caught and banned, the roads would be pretty clear...

In my line of work I am regularly (for different clients) subject to
Police checks - and ANYTHING on my record would mean that I would
automatically fail these checks. This was my second ban - the first
being in 1996 - and I have probably had as many as 25-30 checks - the
last being 6weeks ago - and yet again no mention was made - and no,
none of my work entails being around children or working with them.

We are not serial drink drivers. Both me and Millichap were done twice
and pleaded guilty and I dont think either of us will get done again

Why wasn't the first ban enough to make you come to this conclusion?

I've known people who've been busted once, they've made damned well sure
they didn't get done a 2nd time.

Oh, sure. But this isn't the second time this pair have driven just over
the limit - it's the second time they've each been NICKED.

Oh, and one of 'em was sans insurance - and twice the limit the following
day...

Quite obviously just a subtle slip...

You'll get arrested if you fail the breath test regardless. Doesn't matter
if you can't walk or seem perfectly sober. Red light = cuffs.

Really don't care what you think, you have a criminal record, trust me.

Thanks for the abuse to me and Matthew Millichap.

For your info I put my hands up and pleaded guilty.
Only because it was obviously evident you were. Hard to argue the toss
when the analyser shows you way over.

Yes, but if he pleaded not guilty then the case would have been suspended
and given the defendant more time on the road.
