Default Escort electric window fault - 02-10-2005 , 04:28 PM

Hi all,

I have just bought a rather nice one owner 1992 Ford Escort. There is
however a fault on the drivers side front electric window
................ it doesn't work!!!

With the engine running and the lights on, the lights dim if I operate
the window switch, but the window doesn't work. Can anyone point me in
the right direction please, could it be the relay, I understand the
same relay works both windows?

Is this a common fault on the escort?

Regards

Les

Give the inner door panel a thump. If it still doesn't work, it'll be a
knackered window motor. The lights are dimming because the motor is getting
current, a sign that the relay is ok.

Can be, probably not used very often and it's all jammed up, usually taking
all the bits out, giving a quick clean and reassembling might sort it - if
not a new motor is in order.

Buy the manual for this, especially if you want to make sure that the run
about keeps running about.

Also, I'd pay attention to the standard built in water bottle courtesy of
the fusebox. Also, if it's a 1.3 or 1.4 then it will have either a HCS or
CVH lump, which if you neglect oil changes, will make a lovely tappety
clicking noise. If it's the 1.6, it will probably be a 16v, make sure you
keep the oil fresh in it too, and use a good quality semi synth 5w30 to stop
the valves sticking on this early Zetec.

Ta,
G.
