Default Fuel brand mpg figures - 10-03-2009 , 09:44 AM

The other day I went from Kent to Bristol on normal 95 ron Esso and when i
got there I refilled the tank on my 2.0ltr Nissan Primera and it worked out
at 36 mpg. When I refilled it was with BP again 95 ron and on my return home
and refilling again my mpg worked out at 42 mpg. The up and down journeys
were on the same route of mostly motorways and the speeds were about the
same so could it be that the BP is a better fuel than Esso. Has anyone else
noticed a difference between the major fuel brands on economy.

No. Look for another reason.

The "up" journey was also against the prevailing wind, I presume?

I usually fill up at Tesco's, but occasionally frequent a Shell or BP garage,
and there's sod all difference in consumption.

Has anyone else noticed a difference between the major fuel brands on
economy.

On occasion , I've done a tankful on supermarket fuel then done a similar
tankful of journeys on branded fuel and seen an improvement.

Then a month or two later I've seen better results on supermarket fuels....

I don't think there's much difference at all in practice.
A couple of years back I did run my car on BP Ultimate diesel for a month or
two and did see a marked improvement in consumption , a reduction in smoke
on startup and what felt like a smoother engine at idle.

Most likely explanation is prevailing wind.

Yes, a 15-20mpg difference between Tesco Diesel and Shell Diesel. That is
why I will not use Tesco stuff, it is also 2p more per litre than the local
Shell
garage. There is a huge difference between different makes. Tesco were
caught
out blending biodiesel with real diesel and also trying to thin petrol using
additives.
Remember all the cars that were breaking a few years ago!

yes there IS a difference in fuels, it is reported over many forums.
