Default Mazda 626 (1999) Tailgate strutts - 02-15-2007 , 11:11 AM

Anybody had these fail? Priced some new ones up. Cheapest £85
Anyway existing ones can be fixed?
Any other type fit?

I know about the old piece of 2X2 trick to support the boot which would work
if the tailgate wasn't so heavy to lift in the first place.

Cheers for any info or suggestions, comical or otherwise.

Cheers

Neil

I found the same thing for my 1992 323F - I need a strut one side.

The tailgate is so heavy that it needs both struts - one side failed a while
ago (didn't really notice, tis SWMBO's car ;-) - then recently the ball
joint that the good one attached to on the tailgate snapped due to the extra
load, leaving me one good strut and one duff one.

I know I could bodge it to get the good strut and the good ball joint on the
same side but I'd rather fix it properly. But cheaply - £85 a pair is steep
for struts, even scrappies want £40 the pair...

I did hear of a firm that would re-gas your originals, but I cant remember
who / when. They started off doing Volvo 240 estate struts.

Perhaps have a google?

Tim.

Scrapyards are your friend. A tenner a pair at most.

Maybe up there, but down here scrapyards seem to only sell gold plated,
never used items. Or at least they should be, the prices they charge.

£25 for one, £40 a pair when I looked for struts for mine.
