Default Old Soviet car - 02-10-2007 , 03:30 PM

Could someone recommend some resources on old Soviet cars collections,
museums, shops etc..?

I am looking for individual or company that would consider buying a
new item for their collection. I own 1976 Izh-412 Moskvitch in pretty
good condition and willing to sell it for someone's collection, not
for use. Car details are at http://matilda.porichky.com

Looks tidy for a Moskvitch.

Unfortunately, it's pretty worthless in the UK.

I'd value it at around ?700.

$5000 USD for a Moskvitch with 60k KM? You're having a laugh!!! (I'd like
to know what value that really has against your annual income in the
Ukraine) Whilst reasonably tidy, its a piece of recent history, and doesn't
represent anything to most of us in western Europe.

Ukraine? Does it glow in the dark? (OK, so you're closer to Poland!)

I realise it is useless as a car compare to UK or other foreign cars
even of the the same age.
My position is to sell it for a museum or collection as a historical
item in a good condition.

Visit http://auto.ria.ua to see the value of autos (and estimate
annual income) in Ukraine if you wish.

Anyway thank you for your comment.

THe fucking things don't die. My old man had one once in the early
80's. Spent a few months running on 3 cylinders before spending its
final week running on two. Fired up straight away and managed to drive
the few miles to its final resting place.

The problem is they are worthless here.
I sold a Lada to a student from the Ukraine once and he drove it home.
He had earned enough money in a month here to buy a four year old car when
it would have taken him years to save that up back home.

There was a news story some years ago. Something about smaller Russian
merchant ships calling into a port in Scotland somewhere. Buying up every
Lada they could find, and shipping them home as deck cargo.
IIRC Quentin Wilson bought an old Lada. Drove it to the dockside and sold it
at a profit.

I'm very surprised that you need to ask that question.
He's a well known, (probably to most of the contributors to the uk.rec car
n/groups) TV presenter and motoring journalist.
He co-presented Top Gear with Jeremy Clarkson for over 10 years. Left that
to present Ch 5's Fifth Gear. In 2004 was awarded the Motoring Writer of the
year, and he has written several motoring books.
He also presented 'Britains Worst Driver' along with all the other
'Worst----' programmes. 'Husband', 'Teenager', 'Builder' etc.
Mike.
