Default Midlands BEWAREunmarked POLICE in silver Jag! - 07-26-2003 , 05:15 AM

An unmarked silver unmarked Jaguar Reg: Y352GHP is roaming the A45 and
surrounding roads! I have also seen an unmarked people carrier, so BEWARE!

Dare I ask why? Unmarked police cars are on the road for a reason and afaik
are a very useful tool for the police. Just so you and others can avoid
getting caught doing minor road related lawbreaking you wish to jeopardise
the police in dealing with more serious matters as well? If your car is
roadworthy and you drively safely you have nowt to worry about anyway.

Chris.

Why?? You could try driving within the law then it wouldn't matter what
they were driving would it?

So it's unmarked then is it?

I'm sure it's got 'Jaguar' badges on it.

Erm, why?

Unmarked cars generally only exist for one reason - to 'trap' your
ordinary law-abiding citizen for exceeding the speed limit slightly.

I don't have a problem with lots of marked cars on the road - but
unmarked cars are a bit below the belt, to say the least.

By definition, law abiding citizens don't exceed the speed limit at all.
Besides, unmarked cars are used for other uses such as surveillance
work.

I don't see why.

Lol...... _everyone_ exceeds the limit at some time or another.
Especially now that limits are being introduced for revenue raising
purposes.

I've recently been booked for 37mph in a 30mph limit. This was a dual
carriageway road, and I was being _very_ careful due to the number of
traffic-light cameras / Truvelo cameras on it - then I was booked by a
local authroity 'safety van' - the kind that look just like a council
maintenance van.

True. However, this one sounds like a revenue car to me. If it isn't,
then they're not doing a very good job of keeping a low profile in their
surveillance work ;-)

Given that it's bloody hard to keep excatly to, or under, the limit, at
least you get a fair warning with marked cars. If the police are
resorting to revenue raising 'entrapment' type enforcement, then the
roads are likely to become _more dangerous_ as drivers spend more time
looking at their dials and mirrors than they do the road ahead.

It's a fact that the majority of UK drivers do tho.

Then by definition they aren't "law abiding".

I'm not sure what the problem is. 37mph in a 30 limit is more than 20%
over the limit. I suspect your speedo was reading closer to 40. I
wouldn't call that being very careful.

Again, I can't see why you have a problem controlling your car's speed.
I mean, the speedo is usually quite prominent and it usually requires
only a split second glance every five seconds or so.
