Default noisy breaks , micra - 03-08-2007 , 04:01 PM

Hi,

My micra has recently started to make a binding type noise
around the wheel when driving, breaking, sometimes intermitent.

Is this worn pads or binding and is it an easy D.I.Y. ?

car is old . 13 years

any help much appreciated.

Why not take the wheel off and look for yourself ?
You're in a better position than we are to check for worn pads or binding,
but as you have asked the question, I would suggest you have it looked at by
a garage.

And please not 'breaking'. The correct word is 'braking'. without an 'e'.
Mike.

And I'm sorry you don't like my reply, but from a practical POV I doubt
you'll get a better one, but you might get some with long lists of what
might be the problem.

But I did give you a pointer. Take the wheel off and have a look.
No one can answer your question without actually looking at the pads.
Checking for any binding, and how easy it is to fix is dependant upon what
is wrong.
It's a question like 'How long is a piece of string?'
All I can add to my previous reply is that it's usually an easy job to
change pads.

I'm not a teacher, and the spelling is not the problem.
Bad spelling doesn't bother me. The difference between breaking and braking
is not one of spelling. The spelling is correct for both.
It's using the wrong one in the wrong context that is annoying. Not just to
me. Others in these motoring n/groups feel the same way.
Mike.

TBH, other than whip the wheel off and take a look, there is nothing more
than can be said. That, or take it to a garage.

One thing that is worth mentioning, is if the pads have worn to the metal,
the caliper piston may have travelled slightly further than it would like
and cannot return properly when the brake is released. You're looking at a
new caliper(s) or a rebuild.

The best maintenance is preventative maintenance. You should really keep on
top of these things.
