We got up this morning to find a fixed penalty notice attached to our
car, which was correctly parked outside our house and it was issued at
4.15AM. It says "Offence code 400" Then handwritten "VRM - fail to
comply regs"
anyone any ideas what on earth it's for?

Ignore that!

or missing plate manufacturer details.

*THAT* would be a bit of a pisstake, though...

I'd think it was, none of my plates have manufacturer details and they
were made before the requirement to have such details surfaced.

I thin the conversation in the shop was "if you put your fucking
telephone number on those plates, you can bloody well pay me for the
advertising."

And?

http://www.dvla.gov.uk/media/pdf/lea...mberplates.pdf
http://www.dvla.gov.uk/media/pdf/leaflets/inf104.pdf

No requirement in those to show the maker's name or telephone number.

This document:

http://www.dvla.gov.uk/media/pdf/leaflets/v796.pdf

Mentions that the British Standard requires manufacturers details to be
shown on the plate, but there's nothing in the other documents to say
that a plate fitted to a vehicle must meet the British Standard. Simply
a set of requirements for the font.

And note that plates fitted before 2001, as mine were, can be to a
different standard.

Normally it displays the manufacturers postcode.
This is in the act of parliament. I can't remember which one bt I read it a
couple of years ago.
The makers are listed by post code so if someone has made a dodgy one they
can be chased up easily by the police.

ThePunisher (thepunisher (AT) ntlworld (DOT) com) gurgled happily, sounding much
like they were saying :

Why would that be, then?

I think he is referring to the Citroens with hydropneumatic suspension.

Although nitrogen springs are still springs.

I would've thought that Golf R32s and BMW M3s have more to fear from
legislation against "Vehicle Not Fitted With Suitable And Sufficient Springs". ;-)

I'm sure he is.

I'm still intrigued to know what's unsuitable or insufficient...
