Do you mean the Billing junction itself, or the A43/Riverside slip?

Don't assume that everyone else has reported what they saw - anything (however minor) you can tell the Police may help peice together what happened.

I expect there will be a report in the Chronicle tomorrow - do you live locally? If not I can let you know what is reported.

Hi PJ,

Just a thought but maybe you should contact the police as they may not have
had anyone providing a statement from your viewpoint of what happened.

Thankfully, i've never had to witness a bad car accident, but did see the
sad loss of the Firefly crew at my first Duxford flying legends airshow show
earlier this year.

Cheers,
Stephen

I witnessed the nastiest road accident I've ever seen on the A45 near
Billing
Aquadrome at about 5:15pm today...

Rush hour, so there was a lot of traffic about. A two-lane sliproad rising
up
off the main east-bound carriageway. A Fiesta-sized hatchback struck the
offside rear of a stationary vehicle waiting in the queue in the left-hand
lane about half way up the sliproad. The impact was violent enough to
throw
the hatchback well into the air. It came down in the right-hand lane and
continued to barrel-roll across the sliproad and then down the grass bank
towards the main carriageway.

We were in the right-hand lane of the main carriageway and already
alongside
the scene when the accident began. I only saw it because I was the front
seat
passenger and happened to be looking in that direction - the driver didn't
see anything. By the time the hatchback was reaching the bottom of the
slope
we were already well past the scene and the vehicle was obscured by other
traffic, so I don't know if it actually rolled onto the main carirageway,
or
if it was struck by anything else if it did make it that far. My guess,
based
on the hatchback's apparent momentum as it went out of view, is that it
didn't get as far as the main carriageway itself, although it probably
would've made the verge...

I'm guessing that there's no point in contacting the police - there will
have
been many more witnesses in a much better position than me to say what
occured. I *think* the stationary vehicle that was struck was *not* the
last
vehicle in the queue, in which case, how did the hatchback manage to hit
it
at all? I can't even be 100% certain that it *was* in the left-hand
lane...

However, witnessing the accident did shake me up a bit. Other than keeping
an
ear to the local media (the accident did feature on a subsequent traffic
bulletin, although the facts were wrong), does anyone know of a
non-intrusive, non-timewasting way of finding out what happened to those
involved?

I can't help you with seeking information but I can relate to what you
have experienced, I recently witnessed an accident locally when a school
child was hit by a car and he was consequently somersaulted about six
feet into the air before landing unconscious on the pavement.

Fortunately the kid survived although he was extremely lucky only to
suffer from concussion and a broken leg but still a horrendous thing to
witness nonetheless.

Steve.

Seen a few and talk about time slowing down...

MK3 Golf with a blow out in the outside lane of M1, went across all
three lanes and hard shoulder, up onto the armco along the top for
20/30 yards then back off ending up on the hard shoulder, missed
everyone else by some miracle.

Was behind an Alfa in the outside lane, he moved across to let me
past, looked in the mirror and he was crashing behind me into the
central res. after I'd passed (another tyre blow out).

Another Golf on a country lane going too fast into standing water,
ended up on the verge at opposite side of road on the wheels but
smashed to pieces - opps didn't see that one as I was in the car
crashing at the time. ;-)

Seconded,
While you are talking to the police ask them does their force have a
"media line number"? Many have a phone number that their press office
leaves updates to incidents on, the press then call this rather than
keep calling the press officer.

Nothing in the local paper today; however as it's published in the morning they may not have caught up with last nights' reports. I'll have a look tomorrow as well.

No news today either - I guess this means it wasn't a KSI incident (these are normally reported).
